^After skiing many resorts over the years (many multiple times) we wanted to check out Taos for all the good reviews it has. Somehow the stars aligned again for this trip and Taos received a 24" storm total literally just before we arrived. This was much needed on their 39" base and first significant storm in 2 months!
Taos lives up to it's reputation.... a true skier's and (rider's mountain since 2008). Fixed grip lifts (no high speed), reasonable lift tickets and a small base area with not much development. If you are looking for bar hopping and late night partying don't come here. Bars and restaurants close as early as 10 and sometimes aren't even open at all or at the owners discretion. It is a very laid back and unpretentious ski town.... but change is coming next year with the new owner, new lifts and revamped base area.
Ok now on to the pics... the first 30 of 61.
Transport from ABQ
Arrived to the Taos Ski Valley with fresh snow
Taos is very dog friendly, dogs in bars and restaurants almost every night
Scoots day started out bad, with a broken boot.... as the saying goes no friends on powder days.... sorry!
Lift 1 line up at 9:00 a.m.
Remember they haven't had snow in 2 months
Looking up Al's Run... all smiles in the lift line
From top of Lift 2 - Entrance to Castor and West Basin
Top of Lift 2 skier's right - Hike to bowls info... only West Ridge Open due to avy control
Gate to Highline Ridge and West Ridge
Looking into the Highline Ridge
Hike to the top of West Ridge
Dropped in Fabian off West Ridge, nice and deep
More West Ridge goodness
The mountain was doing avy control the whole day so we explored the West Basin most of the day
Lift 7 and 4 opened so we headed to the Kachina basin
Selfie
Lift 4 area under Kachina
Looking up Kachina
Chair 4
Looking into the Taos Ski Valley from Kachina basin area

Ok onto the Kachina Peak hike. This is the last year to hike Kachina Peak as they are putting in a lift to access the area.... Booo! Oh well.

Hunzinger Bowl.... this bowl slid the next day.
Tree goodness
Random base photo I didn't know where to put

The Valley below
Going up
Safety meeting cabin
Getting steep now
The Kachina flags in view almost there!
Yes! 12,481ft
1:20 minutes to the top for me... guide says 45 minutes... next year there will be a lift up here. Glad I was able to hike it before that.
Kachina lift goes in next year.... allowing access for everyone to the top.... Booooo, at least put a T-Bar in!
Recovery drink
Kachina from the town of Taos on the way out
Shuttle back... with Ski Santa Fe in the distance (upper middle of pic)
One last pic of the cattle cars used to transport skiers from parking lots
Go ski Taos Ski Valley... you won't be disappointed!
