I had a Kelly day (a type of furlough day) and so I finally got a chance to hit the slopes. Cataloochee was closer, a little cheaper and had both of it's blacks open so it beat of Sugar.

No park stuff was out. It's not my thing, but just so you know to call and ask about it in advance.

There was a major league temp inversion on the mtn. 29 in Maggie valley (29 at home when I left) and 48 on top of the mtn. I skied in a t-shirt all day. Conditions were fine though, cordouroy, and fast. I was able to truck pretty good (82.1 km/h, which sounds more impressive than 49 mph).

Pretty much had the place to myself most of the day.

It's 830 am, do you know where Cataloochee is?

Upper OMG seemed like my own personal run most of the day. Keep in mind the quad wasnt running and Upper snowbird isnt open. Not crowded at all. Lots of fun rollers on Upper OMG and Rock Island to play on

This guy asked me for help attaching his lift ticket. I gotta admire the confidence of someone so new to the sport that they dont know how to put on a lift ticket but has 3 GoPros. If u watch the video you'll see him laying on his back in the middle of a run near the easyway lift at 1:41

looks good. I was up there last friday and there definitely more people. Never really turned into a line though at the base. The double runs at a nice speed it's not a long ride at all to the top. Alley cat is indeed a good straightline run. With the extra people after about 1pm the snow started getting scraped exposing the ever present ice, but below the midway unloading the snow stayed decent all day. haven't been on it yet, but guntner's vay is probably steeper than any of the runs at cat.

i especially appreciate your pole whack at the Alley Cat Couloir EXTREME. With recent conditions, that cornice is set to fall at any point now. saftey first!
