Check your wiper fluid!!

Me and my girlfriend made the 170 mile drive from Arlington, VA to Davis, WV in under 4 hours. The roads were snow packed and thick in some spots for the last 30 miles with a wicked wind blowing snow and dropping viz down to zero at times. We were driving her SUV, which still had a summer mixture of windshield wiper fluid in it, so it was partially frozen. Thankfully we never had to use it, and after sitting in the sun a few minutes at the Shop-n-Save, it thawed out. I ran it dry and replaced it with -40F (if you plan to be out in this weather run your fluid dry and replace it with at least -0F grade).



We are the only one staying at the Bright Morning B&B in Davis, and the inn keeper had actually emailed us this morning telling us if we didn't want to come, we could get a full refund. Unfortuantly we didn't check email before leaving. It is as cold as a pile of penguin you know what (current temp at 620pm is 1F). , with wind chills -20F. Forecast is for more snow tonight and windchills still well below zero for Monday. But lift tickets are only $18 at Timberline for students (I'm not, but she is getting her MBA), and with a $5 coupon at Canaan, only $26. So we are here, have the joint liteally to ourselves, gonna tie one on at the bar across the street, get up a little late and hit the hill when the chill hopefuly lets up. If it is still wicked on Tuesday, might head for the nordic center and do some x-country in the trees where hopefuly the wind will be less.

I was thinking of leaving a cheap $7 Harbor Frieght heat gun in the glove box for times like this when the nozzles are frozen over. Speaking of which, I just moved form FL and I'm sure my wiper fluid is of the over 32F variety.

The problem is that sometimes it freezes in the reservior or in the lines, which is alot harder to deal with than just in the nozels.

Yeah, if it freezes in the lines you're screwed. My reservoir is easily accessible, but it's made of plastic so it'll melt with too much heat.
