Been watching the forecast for the last week, watching the snow totals go uuuuuup and dooooown, and it settled on a southerly track in the Thurs/Friday timeframe. We called an audible last night to drive from DC to my hometown of Bluefield, WV, where my parents were happy to see us and take requests for homecooking :D

Got up this morning at 5:45, started up to Winterplace. Secondary roads were bad...figured primary would be ok.... Interstate 77 looked like this:

So it was a pretty interesting drive. Got to Winterplace, anywhere from 2 to 5 to 10 inches on the ground and still snowing; depths were really variable given that the wind was really blowing stuff around. Now for the shameless self promotion. Plunge:

Next: a goal that has been in my mind for a long time. Every time I go home, I eye the backside of the hill that I live on (in the neighborhood of Redden Village), which is relatively flat, but is also grassy and north facing. On the way home from Winterplace, I knew it had to be mine. Cue two hours of low angle meadow skipping:

At the bottom....gotta hike back up:

Save your money this winter.... ski WV and instead of coming west to ski, go somewhere warm and sit on a beach sipping drinks.

I skied LL in 40 degree temps today. The snow was decent, but holy crap- I haven't had a powder day inbounds in CO yet this year.

Mine too. Always has the best snow. Snow Bowl would rock if it had just 2 or 3 times more vertical.
