This morning was SICK. Easily the best conditions I've had at Beech in a few years. I was shocked to hear from carvebeast that they were reporting 8 inches. I was expecting 3 or 4. And yes, it was a legit 8 inches.
Tom and I arrived at the lift at 8:35 to make sure we got first chair on this MLK weekend. Success.
I'm going to go on a rant here. The quad didn't open until 9:45. On a pow day. On the busiest weekend of the season. The same crap happened two weeks ago when I was there. The employees didn't show up until 9 or a few minutes after. They then proceeded to walk around aimlessly and smoke cigarettes because apparently none of them knew how to put the chairs on. Finally, ski patrol shows up and they have to put the chairs on and they begin to put the lift line ropes up. This process didn't even begin until 9:30. Pretty annoying to have this happen the past two times I've been out there. If I had payed 65 bucks for a ticket, I'd be pissed. There was definitely some grumbling in the line.
By the time we got on the lift it was 9:45 and the lift line had already ballooned. I could have had 4 or 5 runs in boot deep pow without waiting in lines. It was still great though. Southern wasn't groomed and White had one cat track in the middle of it. The rest was left untouched. The first run down White was awesome. First pow turns of the year. Made another run over there then headed to Southern where I got barreled with every turn on the bottom half of the run. SO GOOD. I don't have any actions shots or pics from first thing in the morning because I didn't feel like stopping. Tom has a bunch of GoBro footage that I'll post in a few days. Here are some of the pics I got though from later on in the day.
Rode good ole Lift 6 all morning.
White got tracked out pretty fast.
Yardsale was rocking a sweet ice beard.
Tom and I went exploring.
Also, to the ski patroller who closed off the gap, you suck.

No lift, gap closed. I knew staying home was the right call.

If the high-speed could be run at actual high speed (opening on time should be a given) Beech would be the hands down winner in NC, esp. now w/ the 5506.
I've never understood why they have to keep it so powered down. The feed rate is so slow that it actual makes unloading MORE difficult
Nice TR, wish I could have made it Fri. or tomorrow

They used to run it full speed a few years back. It was awesome. The last couple of years though it has been slowed down a lot. It definitely isn't high speed anymore but it's still better than Sugar's lifts.
