Instead of hijacking the Ober thread I decided to bust out a new one.
Check out all of the photos at these mfrs web sites.

I would welcome any one of these slopes in my area. It def does not replace the real experience but it would cure the skiing blues during the summer months. There has got to be a market for this kind of thing in the Atlanta area. Since there are no half pipes or quarter pipes in this region I could easily see the freestyle riders giving it a try if one of these were built.

There was an Astroturf hill in Atlanta quite a few years ago. It was in Vinings. This stuff in the videos looks much better than the old Ober Astroturf. You can read about my experience there on the Ober thread.
I had read your post earlier, it made me cringe. One hour of getting soaked and bruised had to be miserable.

Seems like this could be a good idea so that pipes could be introduced to the Southeast...
Another thought that I just had about a pipe is...why couldn't one of these structures be built in the mountains...then when it snows the snow covers and already pre-made pipe, and we have a real snow half-pipe?
I guess if it could be done it would be done. But why couldn't you just have a pre-made pipe? Even if it was just a ditch cut to be a half-pipe and snow made on it.

a better invention would be a way to keep the ground cold enough to support a 10" base of powder when it is 100 F outside.
oh wait i'm having ski visions again.

Watch that Ski Dubai thing on the Discovery channel, they have something similar to that, a network of pipes under the snow to help keep it cold...
