Mark you might wanna go here on Sunday........

excerpt from todays avalanche forecast office in Bozeman

Last night a moist northwest flow created the coveted Bridger Bowl Cloud (aka. BBC). As of 7 a.m. 18 inches has already fallen, and it continues to snow. The northern Gallatin and Madison ranges got 4-6 inches while the southern mountains received 2-4 inches. Temperatures range from –6F in Cooke City to +10F in the Bridgers as west to northwest winds are blowing at 15-30 mph. I have a hard time predicting the BBC snowfall amounts, but my guestimate is that another 16 inches could accumulate by tomorrow morning while the rest of our area gets 4-6 inches. Along with more snow we’ll also get stronger winds. Lovely.

Burlington, Vermont (Ski Press)-From Bestskiweather.com: After a period of some colder, drier weather for BC and the Canadian Rockies, snow will be falling the next 24 hours with some decent amounts of 3-6”+ from Fernie to Red Mountain and at least 2-3” at Lake Louise. This is right on track from what we said about a week ago would happen after the brief respite from the huge January-early February snows.

Some computer models were giving the Selkirk’s a foot of snow by this a.m., so there is a chance that Fernie, and especially Red Mountain will see >6” between today’s and overnight snowfall.

Temperatures will be turning seasonally cold in BC/Canadian Rockies by the weekend with sunnier skies and a possible inversion Sat/Sun. morning. Readings could drop to around 0 degrees at the base both mornings with highs in the single numbers and teens-but light weekend winds will make for some delightful skiing.

An important storm system will stall west of Oregon/Washington by Monday-Tuesday of next week.

Some computer models bury the Selkirk’s and Kootenays with at least 6-10” of snow by then with the heaviest snow staying south and east of interior BC and Whistler.

It appears this storm may favor the Cascades of Washington and Oregon with 1-2 feet of snow early next week. The enclosed map even suggests Mammoth getting 2 feet or more snow as well as portions of the Sierras.

With time, I expect this huge storm to slowly make its way towards the California and BC coast by early March and result in above normal snowfall from the Cascades to Whistler and into interior BC and the Selkirk region. Big Sky Montana and Sun Valley could benefit from the early March snows, as well.

It is a little too early to say whether this storm will move further north into BC or be centered more over the N. Sierras and Cascades after March 2nd. Overall, however, I look for at least normal snowfall between March 2th-6th from Fernie to Whistler and the Kootenays and Bugaboos, above normal snowfall in the Selkirk’s and the Cascades and interior BC along the Cariboos to Sun Peaks may have less snowfall than ski areas well to the south. It should be a good first week of March in this area.
