I have a simple policy when it comes to Beech- I'll pay full price only when Oz Run is open as it seems to open last compared to the other trails. Past that I don't go. Nothing against Beech as I love to ski there btw.

When the Oz run tunnel is open, Beech can be a magical place.

I read where they were limiting the number of tunnel passes this year due to new regulations the interior dept. passed. Something about too many people in an underground tunnel for rescue purposes in case of a collapse. Something to do with the Chilean mine collapse last year.

I already have my pass. Can't wait to use it and experience that Oz magic.

forgive me, because I have only been to Beech once, and that was many years ago, but what is an oz run tunnel pass? I do see where Oz run is on their map and I really am trying hit Beech up once Oz run is finally open cause it looks like a great run.

I was really hoping, and planning, to finally get back to Beech this year. I actually wanted to go thursday or friday, but the 350 mile drive for me is just not worth it with only a fraction of the trails open. I guess I am looking at making a January visit (mid week) visit now.

A couple of years ago, when the costins scored beech mountain on a great closeout deal, their first investment was to dig a custom mine grade tunnel from the lift ticket window to the bottom of the oz run. it was shut down for a year due to inspection concerns when it was discovered that people were holding raves down there.

the only way the state would let them reopen was to institute a pass system and to have a pass checker at both ends of the tunnel. now the passes are bought up each year by the same 100 people who held them the year before, due to a seniority sale process. ive heard the tunnel pass waiting list is 400 people deep.

all i want this christmas is a beech tunnel pass.

ok I was worried for a minute. Let me see if I understand this correctly... basically you are saying you can ski Oz run with a regular lift ticket you just can't walk straight from the ticket window to the bottom of the run? I had no idea there was a tunnel, but what do I know I live in Middle Tn, and the only southeast skiing I have done for years has all been at SS plus 1 trip to Cat.

All I know now is I am getting sick of waiting for this warm weather pattern to break so we can get some more trails open. I am dying here to get back on the mountain. My Beaver Creek trip is just under 2 months away and I need to get my ski legs under me first!
