My 5 year old has been tearing up Perfect north our home area so I decided to get the ridiculous pass and see how she handled some different terrain. I am uploading youtube videos and will post in morning of her skiing some of the blacks but here are some photos.

Pic of lower shays

Daughter skiing lower shays

Fresh snow piled up on Monday morning

Daughter at snowshow basin black diamond signs Will post some video tomorrow

I think this is top of camp 99

We had a blast. Great conditions on Mon and Tue. My daughter loved the moguls that formed monday with all the snow. Overall impressed with snowshoe and glad it wasn't really busy.

Here is a video of her skiing down lower shays. I apologize for the horrible shaking and sound quality. Anyone think she is above average for a 5 year old preschool kid?

Here is her skiing widowmaker.

I will post more video tomorrow

Lower ballhooter bumps were fun. She loved moguls. These were the first true moguls she had seen.

Camp 99 was a fun run. Conditions were great. This was on Tuesday after they groomed all the fresh snow from monday.

Anyone think she is a good skier?

Your video links don't work -- anyway she's obviously a little ripper, all smiles too

I noticed that. Oh well I tried. She is definitely doing well at skiing. It is fun watching the people in chairlifts staring back like *** is that little girl carving and hearing comments is fun as well. I now need to find bigger better terrain again to test her out.

Yeah, something is up with embedding YouTube.

She's looking pretty good. A couple of things if you are interested. If she isn't using poles have her keep her hands on her knees, it will keep her from changing her weight by swinging her arms and shoulders around and force her to use lower body movement to change direction. Then, get her some poles and have focus on keeping her hands out front where she can see them. It's great fun to be able to ski the black slopes, but focus more on technique on the blues instead of rushing to the blacks. She is intimidated and it shows in her skiing. I'm sure she is all smiles about it and loves that Dad is proud because she is skiing the big slopes, but it's hard to focus on technique when you're just surviving. Plus, once you've mastered the big slopes by 6 what's left to look forward to?

The only reason I'm saying anything is I've made all these same mistakes. It's great to get her out on the blacks but make that the dessert and not the main course.

Edit: I just reread all that. It sounds kind of pissy but I didn't mean for it to. It's meant as constructive criticism, but you're the Dad and you know what's really happening.

DUdE.... scary, scary, scary ...

Do you have someone posted above her to protect her from uphill traffic coming over the lip at Shay's? I thought at first you did but then they all rode/skiied down. I would not leave her up there to possibly get nailed so you can video her from the bottom as she comes down

Tele yes we ski less challenging blacks and blues most of day. She wanted to try and we did. She will have poles next season. Her technique is pretty good for her age and will only progress with time. Thanks for all the good comments.

guess I shouldn't worry then -- god I used to dread crowded days when my boys were little, mostly just took them out on school days

By the way TD, it's amazing now to think about asking the Board when I should let my boys ski with poles ... the responses were colorful; can't really see that happening now ... probably just as well
