Here's a late season TR for you fine people.

Went out to Breck March 29th through April 3rd. I've never skiied this late in the season, but it really wasnt any different.

Sunday was nice and sunny and a storm rolled in late. We had a 5-6 inch day on Monday. Tuesday had fresh tracks all over peak 6, since it was only open for about an hour on Monday. Wednesday had a midday storm that refilled everything with about 2-3 inches and it was dumping when we left on Thursday. I couldn't complain about the conditions. The base areas turned to mashed taters by the end of the day, but upper mountain was excellento.

I took the trip with both my brothers and their wives, and one other couple - needless to say, I did a lot of skiing on my own. I spent one day nearly entirely on the 6 chair, and another nearly entirely on Peak 6.

I had a gopro, but a lot of the deep snow footage got washed out. I'm working on a 5 or 6 minute edit to show you all the SICK highlights. I'll probably get sponsored by TGR or RedBull if they happen across my edit.

Here are some pics for davidski - everyone else can just move along to the reply section and laud me with compliments to fill my ego and my time as I frantically refresh this thread for new replies.... all pics taken with my galaxy nexus, except for the grainy iPhone pics of me skiing.

My sticks for the week. loved these skis. Rossi S3s

Hi

POW DAY MONDAY

My line in this pic coming out of that gulley lookers right. i'm so core - i know

HI again

drinks were had - coolest bud light tap i've ever seen

and I found a flask in my house that was bigger than the previous one for ants. That's rainbow trout, not cheetah d*****.

which forces pauses in skiing

mandatory imperial chair pic (i lost my green gloves that i just bought this season. bummer)

mandatory new kensho chair pic - sorry for weird filter, i accidentally put this on for this whole day. wasted tons of good pics.

Whale's Tail with the bro - check

And just some more pics...

A pic after hiking past whale's tail and up the peak to drop on the other side into The Dunes. GREAT RUN

and what would a trip to CO be without Tunnel traffic on the way back to Denver

Sucks my season is over. But it was probably the best season of my life.

I'd recommend heading to YouTube and switching it to 1080p or 720p for the FULL POV EFFECT. Oh and full screen so you feel like you're there.

awesome! there is ton's of snow. I highly recommend traversing all the way to "Way Out" earlier in the day when it's open. You can take a fun little line of 4-5 foot drops all the way to the boundary. Especially fun in soft snow.

40 days is unattainable for me, so good for you!

i would but 6 chair is going to be closed that week.and all of the lifts below it. peaks 9 and 10 will be closed.

the imperial super chair will be open but you gotta access it from the t bar which kinda sucks IMO but all of peak 7 and 6 will be open. gonna spend alot of time on peak 6 as i am pretty familiar with the rest of the mtn having lived in breck for a decade or so.

in terms of days its mostly that i live 27 miles to da volf. which i consider more of trip to gym than an awesome day on the hill. even with all those days under my belt this year the terrain and altitude will definitely kick my old butt........

i may get a wild hair and buy a basin pass for $279. good for the remainder of the year, next year plus 3 days at taos and one at silverton.

i could live a happy little life with chair 6 and e chair. way out is fun but flats pretty badly. that section between 3' and 4' was really nice - fun to watch someone else tree skiing and think about all the little paths not taken. how did you like the peak 6 terrain?

well I do declare ... I thought Breck was flat?

Great tree skiing, you were hitting it. Whaletail? looks pretty interesting. Isn't it all so great? so fun to be at a point that you can hit all terrain, wasn't to long ago that we couldn't (speaking collectively)

If I could I would be at A-basin this weekend

or baker or anywhere... really, is it done?

that's a bummer about the 6 chair. You will love peak 6. You can hike straight up the peak for fresh lines, but it's a pretty steep hike. IF not, ski down skiier's right into Bliss and look for patrol to drop the rope at an "sharpied" sign marked "ZERO". traverse as far out into the bowl as you can and then ski the runout further skiiers right into the the tree valley. You will find fresh lines over and oover and over in there.

Yea I always like to watch tree skiing and my eyes take different lines than the skiier. That flat out from Way out is pretty bad, but it's not the worst of breck's flat terrain. Peak 6 really made Breck worth going to for the 4th time in my life.

They are marketing Peak 6 as "something for everyone". But honestly the Kensho chair puts you into a bowl, which given the snow condition, should probably be black. There were a lot of crying kids at the top of the chair. Outside of that, you can ski over into the Beyond Bowl and drop into the trees, or ski the blue groomers and drop into untracked lines forever. See my comments above on where to find them.

yeap Whale's Tail was my first "real" skiing experience a few years back. I remember feeling so accomplished when I got to the peak 7 base and it was such a rush. One of those moments that further addicted me to skiing.

Granted Whale's Tail is probably the easiest skiing up the imperial chair, something about traversing across the ridge line and dropping over the cornice is thrilling. It was my brother's first time up there, so I wanted him to experience the feelings I once had.

quite sadly I think it is done for me this season. The closest I'll be out there is Phoenix in May. If only I was working in the Denver office....
