The End of an Era...We are Shutting Down the Messageboard

The messageboard is now in read-only mode and no new posts or topics can be created. We will leave the messageboard up for historical purposes, but you will not be able to make new posts or comment on existing ones.

We have started a Discord server and hope that you all will join us on there. Technology has changed over the years and maintaining the messageboard has become somewhat of a pain in the butt and Discord offers many features for users, the main one being a very polished mobile app.

Had the opportunity to go paddle on the Lower Tellico with a friend and his sons, great Class III run, good water level, kinda hurts to see a 9 y/o that paddles as well as I do. These weren't the biggest rapids.



Bridge rapid, right at the put-in.













Unknown No-Name Rapid towards the end

Nice TR. What do you boaters know of good places to learn near DC?



I know Great Falls is there...but thats more trial-by-fire-and-die water :)

That was pretty damn cool- can't say ive seen a boat like that. That kind of masochistic paddling is right up my alley too.... :)



If I could sell this stupid bike, I might actually be able to buy a little plastic boat of my own...

Looks like there are a lot of Class 2 spots on the Potomac as well as the Great Falls.

McCoys Falls outside Blacksburg is an awesome spot if you're still around. I'll be back in VA/WV next month if you want to go boat. I def don't have a boat that fits you, but Radford University does, and I have deep contacts there. Don't know the lay of the land up in DC, but I believe there are some mellower sections of the Potomac condusive to learning to kayak. Plus there is a large and active paddling community up there, so you'll be able to find roll clinics etc... Dave is spot on with the resources-canoe clubs, American Whitewater, and don't forget boatertalk. Another great resource, similiar to SkiNC, with lots of info.

Oh and nice paddling pics TD. Was expecting a big pow storm and got rain instead today. Getting the stoke for paddling season...

It's currently raining, I'm in heaven here. Paddling season is in high gear. This is the best year since I started paddling (a whole 3 years ago). With the rain a whole new world has opened up, I haven't been on a dam release run since last fall and I've put in at least a dozen days since the 1st of December. As long as it rains the Smokies and the Plateau could keep me occupied for the next several years, I just wish I had the skills to really take advantage of it. Clear, clean water, no crowds, no rafts, Life is Good in East TN if you are a boater.



I just scheduled to take off at 2 on Thursday, so I can hit the Little River again before it drops out. :D

Should be a good place to learn.

There is also tons of easy water on the New near Blacksburg.

Yea, I know. I'd never actually paddle Bottom Creek. It's just cool to watch others do it.
