I finally completed a century on 7/4/09...100.17miles in 7hrs 17min 43secs of on bike time. It was amazing, grueling, and the most challenging ride I have ever attempted.

It was a little ambitious of me to attempt it after being off the bike for 4 weeks from traveling and hectic work schedule. I went from York through Brattonsville to Chester over to Fort Lawn and back with some side roads added in to make it to 100 miles.

Thankfully there were no incidents, no flats, gorgeous weather, and plenty of scenery. Just a few pictures I took when I stopped:

Nice!

I've done 6 of them myself, some a lot harder than others. Did one on a tandem with my wife, then we went to the TN/AL football game that afternoon. What did the profile look like?

Like any other endeavor that takes commitment and fortitude, a completed century ride is something you will draw strength from in your future endeavors in life.

I have found that the hardest part is between the 25 and 50 mile mark. After that I seem to wake up a littel and get an extra boost of energy. Flats really suck. Glad you did not have any.

Also, you may walk a little funny for a few days.

Nope 80 to 90 is the worst at 80 you think you are going to die before you get done, but once you hit 90 you can feel the end coming any time.

At first I thought you were stupid for making this statement. Then I figured out you were talking about flat tires and not flat roads.

I wasn't as sore as I thought I would be...but crashed asleep shortly after dinner Saturday. Rode this afternoon 10 miles during my lunch break. So I am back riding after 2 days rest.

I am with you on this one...my entire legs started to cramp up around mile 85 and couldn't feel my feet for the last 25 miles...the first 50 miles went easy. Lots of rolling hills with a few decent grades to make it interesting.

Dave...there is no triple on that sucka...but I must admit its a compact double 50/34 for easier climbing. I switched from my Dura-Ace 53/39 because of some of the hilly rides we do around here...kept running out of gear with the 11-23t cassette that I have for time trials. I have another wheelset with a 12-25t cassette, but they are heavy and don't like that setup as much.

I'm talking about miles not your age.
