The End of an Era...We are Shutting Down the Messageboard

The messageboard is now in read-only mode and no new posts or topics can be created. We will leave the messageboard up for historical purposes, but you will not be able to make new posts or comment on existing ones.

We have started a Discord server and hope that you all will join us on there. Technology has changed over the years and maintaining the messageboard has become somewhat of a pain in the butt and Discord offers many features for users, the main one being a very polished mobile app.

We really hope you all will join us on Discord and think you will like the platform. Use the invite link below to join.

With my free time dwindling down until next week when I start a new job, I decided to take my hiking partners for another long hike- this time heading south towards Fairplay to tackle a 14er and a 13er in the same day. The goal- Mt. Sherman at 14,036 and Mt. Sheridan at 13,748. With a slight mishap at the beginning (I forgot the dogs' leashes near one of the mines, forcing me to turn around and "re-hike" about 400 vertical), I'd say the total figures ended at around 7 miles r/t and 3,500 vert.

Looking up at an old mine at 13,000 feet, and Mt. Sherman to the right.

Another old mining house, just below the previous one:

One of the few drainage lakes in the area:

Looking across at the old mine- seriously, who built that thing at 13k feet?

Looking through the window of one ruin towards another:

And another...

Once up on the saddle, you can look north towards a second trailhead:

Another window shot:

My next goal in the area, Horseshoe Mtn:

Once back down towards the car, the light was a little better and I took this shot about 10 minutes before getting back:

The view to the southeast from the old mine. Yep, there were a lot of them in the area.

All done.... the dogs haven't moved since I got them back in the car.

Do you let the dogs drink from those ponds? You know that the water is absolutely loaded with heavy metals leaching from all of the tailings.. I know those dogs are like y'alls kids.

They were running around in the lake, but not drinking- they were only allowed to drink from the creeks that came from the snowmelt (here, at least).

Those are just wonderful. I kept thinking I'd found a favorite picture until I'd move onto the next one. They just kept getting better. I can't even choose which one I like best.

SKISC- I have the Canon 30D, and these were taken with the kit 18-55 IS lens.
