The End of an Era...We are Shutting Down the Messageboard

The messageboard is now in read-only mode and no new posts or topics can be created. We will leave the messageboard up for historical purposes, but you will not be able to make new posts or comment on existing ones.

We have started a Discord server and hope that you all will join us on there. Technology has changed over the years and maintaining the messageboard has become somewhat of a pain in the butt and Discord offers many features for users, the main one being a very polished mobile app.

We really hope you all will join us on Discord and think you will like the platform. Use the invite link below to join.

My new skis made it to my front porch yesterday... I may have misjudged my ability on the length I got... the difference between 181 and 190 is waaaay bigger than i imagined.

The Helis.

190 is a lotta ski for me. I'm sure I could ski it, but its imposing sitting there, all taller-than-me and what not.

Yikes... that's not exactly a light ski, either.

Still lighter than the steel topsheeted Machetes I've been using as powder skis... but yeah... they are monsters...

Good reason to start hitting the gym up again, I suppose.

Mine also arrived, they are all I expected except the condition -- maybe you gentlemen can talk me down but I'd say the vendor was at best half truthful

Here's the link to the product listing notably and unusually for this site there was no photo --http://www.geartrade.com/item/99201

the description was as follows:

Product Condition: The P4 Alpine Ski is in Good condition. This ski has been mounted for a Salomon 3-pattern toe binding, with a 322 mm boot sole. It was returned after a season but has not been skied more than a few weeks at the most. There are only a couple of tiny chips on the top sheet and scratches from normal wear on the base. A good tune on the edges and base will do wonders for this ski that has not seen much use thus far. There are no core shots on either of the bases. The edges do need a tune before being skied, but have no defects or major damage. If this ski is right for you, pick up this bargain now for this winter!

some quick pics

--top sheet are very scuffed, not a problem but the chip is more then tiny, there's some poor p-tex repair, and the edge underfoot esp. got hit hard and will need serious grinding throughout

Whats your perspective on this? I know they are great skis and as rarely as I make it to the deep stuff these should last me a while but I'm disappointed -- although for the price perhaps I shouldn't be

"Scratches from normal wear" does not equal p-tex repair in my book.

Based on this: There are no core shots on either of the bases. The edges do need a tune before being skied, but have no defects or major damage.

And the pics above, I would contact GearTrade and ask for some kind of compensation. I don't think they have any kind of review process on the condition of the gear they sell (maybe they do), but that's certainly a core shot and some fairly decent damage to the skis. Maybe ask for the $40-50 it'll cost you to have that fixed up?

On the other hand, once its fixed (and it appears to be an easy fix) you'll have yourself a nice pair of pow skis. Those nicks won't really affect much of anything.

Thanks KD -- what is your thought about the wear on the tips edge? -- looks like some serious bark-busting ... is there a potential for delaminating (I guess I mean of the topsheet separating)?

when it comes down to it is a core shot anything requiring p-tex or only if it goes to the wood

Zeus, have you decided about bindings?
