The End of an Era...We are Shutting Down the Messageboard

The messageboard is now in read-only mode and no new posts or topics can be created. We will leave the messageboard up for historical purposes, but you will not be able to make new posts or comment on existing ones.

We have started a Discord server and hope that you all will join us on there. Technology has changed over the years and maintaining the messageboard has become somewhat of a pain in the butt and Discord offers many features for users, the main one being a very polished mobile app.

We really hope you all will join us on Discord and think you will like the platform. Use the invite link below to join.

*BEWARE of Sugar Mountain Price Gouging*

This is the spot to post your trail and trip reports. Please notify [email protected] when you do so that we can feature the better ones on the front of the website.

See, mold, many of us have been coming here for a large number of years providing information and providing the resources that are these message boards. You've come here just to defend sugar. I mean really, mold, point to JUST ONE contribution you've made.

I'd druther you stay here and contribute but so far you are pathetically transparent.

Has anyone considered contacting their attornet general? They actually investigate stuff whereas the BBB seems like only a repository for complaints where they don't actually enforce anything.

This thread has not nor will not bankrupt Sugar or any other resort. And call an owner of another resort a "jackass" and the post will be deleted instantly by the almighty moderators. Pardon me for interjecting my opinion. To all other posters with tiny post counts, leave this board for the high and mighty all knowing resort operator wannabe's. I believe admin posted something along the same lines a while back about letting this thread die. But my tiny wittle post count gets me the shaft. Bye byeJust remember, young tadpoll, the bigger the post count, the bigger your p#nis!

Means you need to hook up with a SKINC member with a large post count.

What does that mean? There's nothing else in North Carolina with sporatic 45 degree pitch and 1200 vert and 115 acres. Nothing else is even close. I mean, Beech has 90+ acres with Oz, but the place is as flat as Kansas.

Last 2 times I skied Sugar, it was somewhat crowded at the base area. But I skied alone ALL DAY. Straight to Tom->midload->Whoopdedoo>cut through 3/4 unload station to the bottom of Tom->midload. Repeat. All day long. No more than a 1-2 minute wait for an open single chair at the midload.

I avoid switchback and flying mile at all costs.

Absolutely not. I don't ENJOY paying more for Sugar. But they have the best product. I go into the deal knowing that I'm going to pay $62.

No I don't like it. I'm accostomed to $350 season passes and 30+ days on snow in the Rockies. But I have to get my fix down here, and I know it simply costs $62 in the Southeast to "scrape the bottom of the barrell". I'm a ski junky. I will pay it.

Sugar management, along with all North Carolina ski areas, need to wake up and take some lessons from the Rockies. They could be making so much more money by selling discounted 4-packs with black-out dates (eg - black out Christmas and MLK). They should partner up together to get transferable lift tickets with black out dates. They should stop this bait-and-switch crap. They should tell you the price, and live by it.

Another thing mentioned earlier: Skiing in the Southeast should NOT be possible. It's not natural. In other words, it's expensive as hell to maintain a viable ski area in this climate. In other words, I accept the reality that these mountains can't provide traditional discounts in earnest. If they did, "Whoopdedoo" wouldn't have been cut, and the "yellow lift" would still be the dangerous old ricketty "yellow lift" proper. So, it's painful, but progress is expensive. And this is fun. It's a priveledge. You know? It's going to cost money to open more terrain.

wolf ridge is better if the bowl is open.

Nothing at sugar is close to 45 degrees. The closest is 39 on boulderdash and thats for 2 turns. whoop is something like 33-35 deg.
