With the almost complete lack of snow the Colorado resorts have been seeing, my friend and I decided to check out Berthoud Pass this morning. The avy danger was fairly high, but the terrain offers lots of options, so we decided to play it conservative and stay in the trees. The snow ranged from windblown crust, to 3" on top of rocks, to 2 feet of blower.

Now that I've got the BC setup ready to go, there will be many more TRs away from the resorts. We did a few runs, totaling around 5k of vert and zero tracks crossed. Berthoud's terrain offers a little bit of everything, and I can't wait to get back out there. As soon as my legs will allow.

Going... up?

This area wasn't bad...

Nothin' special, just a cool shot (and an ad for Moment):

When others were skiing blue groomers with thousands of close friends, we got this:

How much climbing were you doing to get your 5K? Were you starting high and skiing down to a car left at lower switchbacks, like above? or are those routes always heavily tracked? I love the treeshots

We skinned up for each of the three runs.... I would guess around 30-45 minutes each time, maybe about 600-800 vertical (?). All three runs we skied down to one of the switchbacks on US 40 and got a ride back up. The first two times we were picked up within a minute, the third time it took a little more than 5 minutes.

I wouldn't call any of these runs heavily tracked- nothing close to what you'll ever see at a resort. We saw some other tracks in the woods, but we never crossed any of them. When we got to the lot in the morning, there were less than 10 cars parked there.
