Another trail or 2 off of 6 would be sooo sweet! And having lights on both sides of the lift might help the night session lift ride not feel like something from the blair witch project...

I-81S to I-64E to VA250 to VA6 to VA6/VA151 to VA6 to US29S is definitely a better route than VA56! Funny that google switched routes when reversing the direction... why would it send you one way there & a different way back!?! Just another reason to double check electronic directions with some common sense

You could have asked. ;)

Taking US340 is shorter after cutting over from US33 just west of Mnut on some little VA back road. But I only do that when it's good weather and day time. The driving time is not that much less.

Here's what I'm gonna try to do:

Leave the house here on Monday morning and drive up to Mant. for the $17 night special. Should be @4-5hr drive.

(Can somebody tell me where to get these coupons at: Pick up a coupon at the weekly local sponsor, Legends at Harrisonburg Crossing or Massanutten's General Store < Where are these places at?)

Then, I'm gonna found a cheap motel room somewhere between Mant. & WTG ,crash for the night and then get up Tuesday Morning and hit up the flex ticket deal at WTG. Sound like a good plan? This way I get to try both resorts. Should be doable for under $100 I'm thinking.

Looks like Legends Sports is in the big shopping center on US33 on the right after taking Exit 247 off I-81. Massanutten General Store is at the ski resort . . . on the top floor of the building with the ticket windows.

Park in the public lot (past the owners lot) and find the stairs to walk down to the Store. Once you have your lift ticket, you can get onto Southern Comfort and ski down to get onto a lift. Do not park in the General Store lot. They are pretty serious that those spaces are reserved for shoppers only. By the way, all the lots are paved.

I know :o But then we would have missed the adventure! VA56 wasn't that bad, but if snow covered I may have had the chance to try out the chains!

Yeah, should be doable for ~$100, depending on how much you'll spend on gas. Great plan... would have done that myself today, but still holiday so no 4hr ticket. The Motel 6 in Harrisonburg is decent & cheap (~$40) or if you want to get 20-30 mins closer then try the Deluxe Budget Inn (~$40) or Super 8 (~$60) in Waynesboro. Harrisonburg to WTG is ~ 1hr or Waynesboro to WTG ~ 30-45 mins... allow a little extra time up the mtn & for parking of course.

Do you do park? If so, could you take a look at the big Mnut set up? You have to go past the bottom of Geronimo towards the tubing area. It looks very impressive, but I don't know enough to say whether it's good or not. The Mnut website has some impressive photos. I think it's new this year that the features for both parks are updated on the website daily.

How is those back country roads from Waynesboro to Wintergreen? Are they generally manageable with 2wd cause that's what I have? Maunt. seems to be not far from the interstate so I'm not too concerned with getting there ,just curious about Wintergreen though. About lodging: I think I'll stop at the 1st hotel I see along I-81 between Harrisonburg & Waynesboro that is under $40 on the sign. Shouldn't be too far away from Wintergreen.

I'm not real crazy about the park scene but that does look pretty cool. Might fool around a little bit.

All the roads were fine today, generally not bad, a few spots where lower gears may be of use, but your car's a lot lighter than my truck so light braking might be just fine for you. With the 4hr flex you can go mid morning and roads should be fine by then if there is any over night snow. We hit one patch of dense fog ~noon and almost missed the turn from 250 to 6, but could still see fine ~100ft in front of us.

king - why are you posting at 11:55 NYE ?

a little foggy this morning in here.

Yesterday morning, we drove from Waynesboro to Wintergreen on VA 6, which snakes down the pass,. All the switchbacks were covered by ice and the minivan had no problem. go slow, don't brake on ice. In general, VA 6 and VA 151 are on the wrong side of the blue ridge so weather trouble on the roads is rare. beautiful country drive.
