After hitting Keystone and ripping groomers all day, I wanted to get out this morning and take some pictures so I could experiment with RAW post-processing. These were taken this morning along the South Boulder Creek and Bluestem trails in Boulder. Any comments or post-processing advice is appreciated.

These are great photos! What program did you use to edit?

Right now I'm using Canon's DPP to edit the RAWs and then PS Elements if I need to do anything else (which I didn't for these pictures). I'm debating on getting Lightroom as a one-stop shop for all the editing.

The first two have a lot of overexposed snow. Just curious...are you using the histogram when setting exposure?

^^^ You mean when I'm taking the picture? No, I never look at the histogram... honestly its because I don't want to take that much time composing the shot.

No, I mean in PP. With a RAW file you should be able to pull back the exposure to eliminate most, if not all, of the blown highlights. Lots of dynamic range in those shots, though, so the mountains could possibly be too dark then.

Oh, gotcha. Yeah, like you said- I could decrease the exposure, but when I was messing around with it I saw that the rest of the scene got too dark. DPP doesn't have selective exposure adjustment, so unfortunately I can't do part of the image and not the whole thing.
