Took to my nephew and his friend over to Cloudmont for day skiing on Sunday. Was pretty crowded, but according to the ticket seller, not as slammed as Saturday. They stopped selling tickets for the afternoon session (1-4) by approximately 12:15 because they had reached “max capacity” and ran out of rental equipment. Both slopes were covered with a nice loose powder surface. Excellent coverage on all areas of the mountain (this is only my 2nd time there, not much prior experience to compare with). Very little ice could be found. Even though both slopes were open, only one of the lifts was in operation. Not sure why, maybe they are still having mechanical issues ? Lines got longest between 1:30 and 3:00 but longest we ever usually waited was 6-8 minutes. Enjoyed numerous runs down both slopes.
Some of the pictures I took are for the benefit of those who have never been there (the “ski lodge”, the entrance sign, etc.). It’s a humble little place, but there is a good vibe with the high % of families and newbies. A fun place to spend an afternoon or evening without a large investment of travel cost and time. Sorry the photos are not embedded into the report. I am still new at working with this site.

THE CLOUDMONT looking the best it has looked in years. Now if we can just get them to reinvest a little back into the hill. That or someone come in, and build Alabama a Sapphire/App size mountain.
I was there with two buddies in tow. I was the guy in the Blue Jacket, and grey helmet lapping "the other slope" all morning while everyone else was waiting in line...I'm waiting on a buddy to upload pics. It was a good day. I stopped skiing around 2 o'clock due to my 3 hours of sleep and skiing Ober the night before...There was plenty of carnage to be had yesterday. I love cloudmont, as it is my home hill, but I wish I didn't have to pay 30 bucks for a lifty.
BTW: The guy in the fart bag in your second pic straightlining the hill in the pizza slice formation wound up taking out that cougar in the black at the bottom of the hill, it was bad, broke her pole.

I tried to go the the afternoon session yesterday but was turned away because they were sold out and my Girlfriend needed to rent skis. Instead went and checked out DeSoto state park and even walked out on the ice on the pond above the falls. The ice is freaking solid in AL! It was a really nice day and it has to be pretty rare to visit an AL state park on a nice day with a little snow on the ground.
Anyway, after that we went tothe night session and it was excellent! In 6 trips up there that was the first time both sides have been open for me. There was even a small loop around in the trees off the skiers right at the top you could go through as well as a number of kickers. There were many more lines available than I have ever seen and we had a great time. While my girlfriend just went into the lift line to go up, (it was 3rd time skiing ever) I never waited once if I was not with her since I just camped 15 feet above the rookies and just grabbed the rope tow when they missed it or fell. Sorry I didn't see any of you there but it was awesome! Ski Alabama!

I enjoyed getting back on some skis after not being on the slopes in over a year! And there is no place better than teh Cloudmont. Thanks for dragging me along K2 even though you have no idea how to do anything "ON TIME"
And that guy that was Str8 lining the "expert side" and just completly wiping out at the bottom to stop was a beatiful cloudmont norm. The only thing that would have made it better would have been a few tall frosties watching all the ejections. Good times!!!!!!

Appreciate the addition of your pics to this thread. I don't recall seeing any TRs from Cloudmont with pics this season..... So I wanted to give people who have never gone there the opportunity to view all of its glory and majesty . When I first walked over from the parking lot and gazed up at the snow coverage, I was really amazed.
Despite the crowds, still a good day to be there (beats sitting at home). Wish I had taken the opportunity to meet some of the peeps from the messageboard, but I'm glad there were others there.
