The End of an Era...We are Shutting Down the Messageboard

The messageboard is now in read-only mode and no new posts or topics can be created. We will leave the messageboard up for historical purposes, but you will not be able to make new posts or comment on existing ones.

We have started a Discord server and hope that you all will join us on there. Technology has changed over the years and maintaining the messageboard has become somewhat of a pain in the butt and Discord offers many features for users, the main one being a very polished mobile app.

We really hope you all will join us on Discord and think you will like the platform. Use the invite link below to join.

Maybe we could hook up for some day trips next year. My kids will be old enough for me to leave Momma behind with out a lot of hassle. Just let me know..

Sounds good to me. Marz is also in our area.

Given how fast the weather can change, you may want to wait a bit before making a decision on where to go. Since that's after Pres. Day, could be at WP will have better snow. Then you might be able to take him sledding at Pipestem.

Hmm, twin Floridians learning to board. Better give them room. ;)

Where's the Beech Summit thread? I searched but can't find it. Also, no thread for the 2010 Snowshoe Summit yet either.

Well, since WP doesn't seem conducive to snowboarding on the bunny hill, I think we might try for WG instead. I think it will all depend on conditions and who actually gets snow since I'd like him to experience falling snow as opposed to just snow on the ground.

Yeah, I was like a kid when I first saw snow last year at Snowshoe, but couldn't really ask for a better place or conditions at the time. It dumped over 2 feet the night we drove in.

Heck, I still feel like a kid when there is fresh snow. Didn't happen that often in NYC where I grew up. Almost as rare as in the Triangle after I moved here long time ago.

No real thread for the Beech Summit/Fundraiser yet. But the date was set for Feb. 20 a few months ago. It's on the SkiSE and Beech calendars. Here are the threads from last season. The auction raised a good deal of money for a very good cause. Got my new goggles plus 2 vouchers for Beech at it.

Went yesterday no pics sry forgot the cam. Overall great conditions, one really bad section of ice on compromise. No one i mean no one was at winterplace yesterday. lapped all day long.

The food at winterplace is better than last year.

The best run was snow bowl. This run is incredible so much powder, they put new guns on it and has drastically improved it. Really enjoyed making turns in the bowl.

Overall it was one of the better days for winterplace. Talk to one of the higher ups and he was little concern at the lack of people taking advantage of the conditions. He was quoted hoping for a big weekend coming up. He said crowds have been down this year overall.

Glad to hear the food it better.

Wonder if the slow start because of the power outage scared people off. Certainly easier to get to WP than Snowshoe when there is snow on the roads. And the price is right.

I like to think its the economy, I stayed at Days Inn in princeton, 75 bucks 84 after taxes included a lift ticket and continental breakfast. Good deal.

the power outage maybe it, i am curious to see what other resorts are saying about there attendance.

As far as snowshoe. They are outrageous if you call the lodge to book it. Plus its really a long drive from raleigh

It's the long drive that keeps me away from Snowshoe. For that amount of time and money, I'd rather fly west. Maybe when Marz Jr. is staying on black runs and is old enough to help drive. For now, Mnut and WP are more her speed. Much easier for us to split us briefly so she can ski blues while I ski blacks. That works really well at WP with Woods Run and Snow Bowl.
