So I headed up to the Cat today for what looked to be an awesome day conditions wise and I was right as you can expect. These pictures will be like a broken record as the snow was plentiful and there was not a bare spot in site (which is to be expected with them reporting a base of a bajillion inches). The ride up was good from Chattanooga except that I have to take 75N instead of the usual US-64 due to the rock slide there . Takes about 45minutes longer to get there now... But it was well worth the trip. Theres was a huge wreck with a truck flipping with a trailer on 75N. Crap was all over the road but luckily I must have lucky to pass it early on as traffic was only bad for like 15 minutes. Also there was a wreck in US-441 through the smokies from some dude I guess loosing control on the roads from the ice (Though I didnt really see much of a problem myself... maybe he was from Florida. I have a fuzzy picture of it as well!
On the way back there were what looked like Elk in the side of the road in Cherokee... I didnt know they lived out here but it looked like they may have had tracking collars on or something... they were very tame as people parked and took pictures of them. I came pretty close passing them with my car as well. I have fuzzy pictures of those as well!
Rock Island Run
Alley Cat
Upper Snow bird
Turkey Trot and wooded area
Lower Snowbird
Upper OMG
Upper Snowbird from top
Elk I guess or some other kind of deer?
Dude who wrecked... I know how he must feel. He most likely had to wait hours to get outa there too...
Okay so here is the video of my first run down the mountain... Its very shaky since I'm holding it in my hand the whole time. You can watch it in low quality HD when it gets fully processed
This is my second run down the mountain taking a different path. I hit the table top box and long rail in the terrain park... which is looking really good Btw. This is in HD quality as of now. Sorry about the crazy shaking... couldn't help it. Btw I say in the video I take upper OMG to Lower OMG. I actually take Upper OMG to Rock Island, then to turkey trot but whatever.

Yes those are elk. They have been working on reintroducing the species to the Smokies for the last 10 or so years. I think their are roughly 100 that now live in the NP.
Nice TR. How much snow was up around Newfound Gap?

Which road did you take between 75N and the road to Maggie Valley (19 I think)? I have to come up with a good detour now that I am headed back to school on the other side of Chattanooga.

I was there yesterday as well, in fact I believe thats me on the far right of the 2nd pic riding the double. Seemed like theres still some 2-3 foot drifts with a solid 6-12 inch base at NFG.
and yeah, nice TR.

I took 75N to 40E, then 441S to 19E... yeah my usual path is blocked off .
Yeah there was still a good bit of snow up there through the smokies. the snow melt makes it dangerous at night though when it refreezes on the roads.
