Left at 4:30am and loaded the back of the van literally with rocks and heavy equipment (oh yeah and skis and chains)--
The chains turned out to be essential, I would not have made it past Lees-McCrae without them. I was among the first half dozen in the lot--
I bought a half day ticket with the idea of maybe doing the afternoon at Sugar, and got 2nd or 3rd chair -- some general lift shots--
Cold and windblown esp at the top--
The conditions were an odd mix of deep windloaded powder with sections of thinly covered ice
But the Ice never lasted long until you were back in something fun--
The wind would fill tracks back in within a couple of runs and it was a spectacular morning of just flying/busting through drifts and miniature wind lips
Hmm, I guess I got lost--
Some pictures from the base (first one is a bad photostitch)--
Avery nice day but conditions at the top left me with little desire to scrape down the top of Sugar so I left at one o'clock; absolutely worth the drive and conditions returning were clear and calm--

the thing I couldn't capture was how much fun it was just flying and bouncing along the wind loaded stuff on the left of each run -- it was absolutely brilliant but not your usual kind of powder day (why would it be at Beech?)
