Went to Sugar today for the day session. Morning started out groomed and frozen. It didn't feel 13 degrees out until I got on the red lift. The wind up there was pretty strong and cold. The day warmed up nicely and the snow softened up to a nice fluffy powder. Whoopdedoo and Boulderdash were pretty icy in the top 1/3, then they were nice runs. Tom Teriffic was good all day. Big Red was one of the best runs there. Lots of powder on the surface and very few icy spots.
Lift lines were nonexistent until about 10:30 or so, then they started to back up a little. Then the afternoon crowd arrived. The line for the main lift was a 15-20 min wait. They had both lifts to the top open, but hardly anyone was using the second one. Possibly because you could watch the people on the other one pass you. It was running a lot slower than the main one. By 2:00 the red lift had a pretty long line at it.
We saw patrol take at least 4 people down on the sled. There were 2 kids about 8-10 yrs old that hit the wooden fence near the red lift. One went through it and I heard he was knocked out. We saw the little girl being treated. It looked like she had a bloody nose.
By mid afternoon it was getting really crowded and the snow was getting tore up a lot from all the traffic. The rough snow surface was giving the beginners and intermediates a lot of trouble. They were falling everywhere. It was like skiing through an obstacle course with moving obstacles. About 3, I decided to call it a day before I killed somebody.

was that from today or yesterday? hard to believe there was a 15 minute wait at the bottom, yesterday it didnt get more than about 5 mins

I was almost more than I could resist. Is it only the rope at the top stopping someone from hitting it when closed? You're right about the connector to LFM. I think maybe they have it that way to keep the red lift from getting so crowded. If there is a big crowd at it and you come down the run with some speed and can't stop quickly, somebody's getting hurt. I came down heading on down Birch and had to maneuver my way through the people waiting for the lift.

Whoopdedoo wasn't too bad in my opinion. sure the top was an ice sheet in the middle but i made great turns down the sides and once halfway down there wasn't ice anywhere.
and to KevinS, I think what keeps people off of Whoop at night is not the rope at the top but the lack of lighting on the run. Its enough to see where you are going, but not enough to see the changing slope conditions that make you fall and slide 100 feet to the bottom

i think I must have the best skis ever or something bacause I didn't run accross anything even resembling ice on Tom, Boulder or Woop. I found boulder the best run of the day.

I will admit that I am not the best carver in the world but I had previously been able navigate that trail with some degree of control. But I don't see how anything short of an ice-skate wouldn't slip on Sunday, late afternoon. On the other hand, my skis haven't seen a file in the three years that I have owned them. I suppose they are due some attention beyond rub-on wax.

yeah dude get them tuned! there were spots of ice on all three blacks, but it was the least i've seen all season
