Wolf Ridge was boasting 6-8 in new pow yesterday so the boss and I took a snow day. While there prob was 6-8 in the woods (out of bounds) 1/2 of the hill was a sheet of ice. I think they must have gotten ice Wednesday morning before turning to the good stuff. Better than a day at work but we were expecting better coverage. Best lines of the day were out of bounds in the trees.

I'd like to know how Beech is looking if someone's been on the ground yesterday or today.

I have been there several times. Every time I've been there it was very icy. I'm not sure what they are doing wrong, but it seems like they have some of the best terrain around but they don't seem to be able to do anything with it.

I've been to Wolf a grand total of 3 times (including today). I used to ski at Hawksnest, and I never thought Hawksnest was as icy as everyone said it was.

Wolf...although I have really enjoyed their terrain...based on the three times I've been there, is every bit as icy as people say it is! That said, I really enjoyed "The Bowl" and "Flameout" today. There was nasty icy patches...but after scouting the ice, I found really nice lines with great snow on these trails.

There were some powder spots, but given the snow on Wednesday just thought it should have been better. Maybe having skied Steamboat last week my standard was a tad high.

I went to Wolf yesterday, got there around 1:00 and there was a lot of ice.By 430 when they close for grooming it was snowing pretty good and not letting up.I moved my car from the upper lodge parking lot to the lower lot for safety and got out my powder skis for giggles and hit it again when they reopened and had a blast.Skied inbounds outabounds poached closed runs that had no lights and the snow coming down made it sweet.I finally jumped in the trees to my delight was some great powder and fun.All in all it was a great afternoon and night. The ice oh well I guess thats Wolf.

I believe there is no snow making capability on Flame Out, Southern Express and the top half of Way Out. Somebody help me out and second that, usually we all go by so fast we're not looking, right? That explains why they lose them occasionally from open status.

The other thing is, they close the entire Breakaway side on weekdays which drops them 4 more slopes. That explains the up and down slope totals.

My wife ran into Rick (co-owner of Wolf Ridge, Scenic Wolf, etc.) and he told her he thought they might make it the rest of the year without making snow again. Let's hope Mother Nature holds out because if anyone would hold to that statement, Wolf would!

GA Skier, I have to agree there were lines to be had and even a marginal day skiing is better than a good day working.

Until this year, it had been 20+ years since I last skiied the Wolf. They've definitely made some improvements. My first trip back was early in January and they had excellent conditions for NC. So much so we were back a couple days later. But w/ the snow they obviously got last week it was disappointing to see that they couldn't translate that into something other than a sheet of ice on broadway.

Oh well, I'll be sitting in Park City this time next week!:>)
