Went skiing and forgot my camera. I went up Friday morning about 11:30. Waited until 12:30 to buy my ticket so I could buy the twilight. It was not bad crowded, but it was a lot more than I expected on a Friday. It started snowing around 1. Around 3:00 they announced that people might want to move their cars down the mountain because the roads were getting bad. Lift lines DISAPPEARED! The fresh powder was really nice. You could ski through the woods or wherever you wanted to and ski patrol didn't say anything. My wife and her son were coming over when he got out of school. It took them 4.5 hours to get there. She said the roads were terrible.

Saturday morning, the main road through Maggie Valley was solid ice and snow, but Cat's crew had really done a good job on the mountain road. There were church vans going up it. We got up there at 8:30 and skied until about noon when the lines got unbearable. We went back to the room and waited for the night session.

We decided to hit Skis N Tees and browse a little. The guys there told us that they were not letting any more people up the mountain.

We went back up about 5 and skied the night session. It wasn't very crowded, but there were a lot of beginners still there. That made for an obstacle course.

If anyone has any pics from there, feel free to post them.

How were the glades? Were they pretty well covered? Also, is it true that they've let the left side of Upper Omi get mogulled up? I'll be up there thursday and friday and I really hope the conditions are still great.

What do you mean glades? I don't ever recall seeing any glades at Cat. Anyway, everything was covered. I saw tracks where someone poached the meadows.

Skiers left side of Upper OMG has been left ungroomed. They have put up three rows of poles for people to ski around to make moguls. It's gonna be good for mogul lovers real soon. They were already forming well last night. I skied them a few times.

Friday it was bumpy pretty much all over the mountain, but they groomed it all but that one section.

They removed all the brush between alley cat and short and sweet and are officially allowing people to ski the trees there. It's pretty flat, but also the only place in NC that I've been that allows glade skiing. I almost had my pass pulled at Beech because I was deep in the trees.

Oh, yea. I didn't know they were officially allowing you to ski there. I just knew we were doing it. There was a steep little hit coming out of the woods back onto the trail. You had no choice but to get air. It was a lot of fun until I hit it too fast and got out of form in the air; landed on my heels. You know what happens then. They were pretty relaxed about where you could ski. I saw a guy go down through the woods on skiers right of rock island run, and like I said earlier, there were track in the meadow yesterday afternoon.

The right side of rock island has a nice long line through it, but there is a barbedwire fence on the way in, so you have to make sure you enter it in just the right spot. If there is good snow, there is a wider spot pretty far in, but you have to traverse left for a good way to get back to the trail.
