For a good time, call 1-800-beech-mtn! :>) Today was my first time to Beech, and while I realize it's not always like this, today was absolutely incredible. The place looked like a Colorado postcard with all the snow they had hanging off every square inch of the mountain. More than once I gave in to the temptation to test the fringes of the runs and found myself in a 2ft snowdrift. I've never experienced that before in the SE.
(apologies in advance for the quality - my phone has an awful camera)
Woke up around 5:45am and drove up. Snowy roads - good sign!
The morning started out rough, with lots of driving snow and fog/cloud.
The wind was so stiff in the morning that my friend couldn't even stand up straight long enough for me to take his picture. Note the safety fence bowing inwards from the wind, as well as the trees bending over.
By late morning though the sun started working its way through.
By the time we finished up our lunch (awesome minestrone soup there by the way) the sky was mostly blue and the afternoon was incredible.
Check out this mountain wave - told ya it was windy.
Thankfully the wind died down considerably in the afternoon. It was still present, but after the snowblasting in the morning the afternoon breeze was barely detectable.
The presence of snow EVERYWHERE is what struck me the most - the entire mountain, valley, nook, crevice, etc - snow was everywhere, and lots of it. Here are a couple of parting shots of trees bearing more snow than my yard has seen all year.
I am definitely planning a return trip to Beech this season.

It has snowed every other day up there (measureable) and probably more than that with ambiance snows per Mike Doble. They have had over a 110" of snow. With only a short thaw in January (that wasnt too bad). This is what happens. Do you not read First Trax on a daily basis, newb?
