Great day for skiing at Massanutten after the drizzle stopped about lunch time. Even saw some sun! Once the snow softened up, there was spring corn everywhere. Pretty icy until about 10:30am though. Needless to say, not many people on the slopes.

Bumps remain on MakAttack and ParaDice. Big grass areas on the little terrain park, so it's closed. The CMB terrain park is fine. Saw several boarders playing over there.

Took advantage of the deal offered to season pass holders. Got my nephew a $15 lift ticket and $15 rental equipment. He flew to Raleigh directly from college to start his spring break, so didn't have his ski stuff.

Warm, a little sun, soft corn snow

Bumps on MakAttack

Girls enjoyed skiing without heavy jackets

Certainly a fair amount of snow left on most runs.

Today it was drizzling and raining in the morning. Left the girls with hubby at the condo. Nephew and I skied for a couple hours. They groomed all over, except the bump areas. Pretty nice since it didn't get cold enough to form new ice. Was clearing up when we left after lunch.

No pics since I didn't feel like taking off wet gloves.

One of the runs off the top of Lift 5 was Rebel Yell. Can't remember the other, but it was also very southern.

There were just a few small spots of snow in the trees. Plus a few piles left in parking lots. The rivers and streams were all very, very high. Flood warnings for the counties just to the north of Harrisonburg. Winchester got 2.5 inches of rain Fri-Sat. Luckily much less at Mnut.

Well, Mnut is hoping to be open until the last weekend in March, but is giving up on mid-week. Given how few people were there last weekend (yes, I know it was raining a bit), I'm not surprised.

From the Mnut website:

"Due to unseasonably warm temperatures projected for the next two weeks, the Massanutten Ski Area and Tubing Park will be closing on March 22nd. We will try to re-open the weekend of March 26th - 28th for our final ski weekend."

They are offering a special deal on a condo for this weekend that includes 4 lift tickets and 4 water park passes.

I've never been to Mass. It's a LONG way from Atlanta. Looks nice though. Marzki you've gotten in a lot of days on the slopes this season. I'm envious. Glad y'all had a great one! When are you going to Alta?

Certainly tried to make full use of our Mnut season passes. Plus I no longer have eldercare responsibilities, which makes it possible to do spur-of-the-moment trips to take advantage of snowstorms and snow days.

Although I like Mnut a lot, it wouldn't be worth driving farther than Snowshoe to go there. For us, Mnut is 4 hours, so 2 hours closer than SS. And SS doesn't have a water park or a long tubing run. Was sorry that my Tahoe trip conflicted with the SS Summit. Glad skipink got to go.

My Alta trip is April 7-12. Meeting up with friends from middle school, which is when I learned to love skiing. Hoping for late season snow storms. I want to apply what I learned at the NASTC/Diva clinic. There was 13 inches of fresh fluffy powder when we went two years ago. It was Marz Jr.'s first trip out West. She loved the powder. Smart girl! :D
