Arrived at 9:15 to 1-2 inches new snow and 27*. It is still winter on the mountain. For mid March and several inches of rain this week, the snow was not in too bad shape.

Early there were some deep gouges and death cookies but they were smoothed out pretty quickly. It was partly foggy with occational snow showers, then clearing and then foggy and snowy again. The snow was wet granular in some places but good hard pack in others, later it got a little thick but not unmanageable. There is still plenty of snow and remarkably few thin spots. Oz was not open and Southern Star was pretty rough since it had not been groomed and still has mogals.

It was 35* when we left at 4:00 so it did not have the huge warm up that is occuring at lower elevations and the snow should hold up fairly well.

Got to meet and ski with lots of people, great times.

Nice to finally meet you Pink, and nice seeing Blacky, Swamp and Bopp again. It was a good day, I think I made the right decision on where to ski today. From what I can see most all the others got rain.

Good Karma abounded I got an extra hamburger and drink at McDonalds at no charge and my ring ended up being right where I left it.

onto the trip:

-You started seeing snow around Linville, no meltdown in site. Once you were in Banner elk you'd still see it pretty high along the river banks.

-If you ever want to experience pop rocks and it's sleeting, just ski through the sleet with your mouth open. It's the same experience without all the artificial colors and flavors.

-It didn't sleet for very long, it snowed most of the time.

-White Lightning and Southern Star were chewed up pretty well in the morning and the diminished visibility made them full of surprises.

-Robin's run was the best run in the morning.

-Once visibility improved so did White Lightning, I lapped it a good bit.

-I love high speed quads.

-A good time was had by all, an once again, on the drive home, I saw a whistle pig. That's 3 Whistle Pigs on the year.

-I ended up destorying the display on my camera. Kind of a bummer, but the pics still look ok.

It was good to see everyone. Shoutz to MIke, Blacky, Scuba, Pink, SKisemac, skiwryter...and to those I forgot, sorry:)

Onto the pics

Blacky doing his thing:

Pink at the top of the mtn

Blacky again

Visibility was less than what one would desire

It's not orange, it's red

Mike is happy

Lift shot

All in all a good way to say goodbye to the 2010 season.

Here's some goggle cam vids. In them you'll see at least pink, blacky and mike

Sorry to miss out, but already planned a trip to DC to meet up with friends for next weekend. Wasn't expecting the ski season to last so long!
