Took the annual Utah trip with family and Brother-in law's family. Coming in early we stopped by the Red Iguana for Sunday Brunch

After stuffing ourselves we headed up to our home base, the Westgate Resorts at the Canyons. Last year after taking advantage of an offer for free lift tickets at the Canyons in return for a one hour time share pitch, we succumbed to a purchase of an every other year time share at the Canyons. We had told the salesman there was no way we were interested, but times were tough and they kept throwing more and more perks at us and well... we're here

I've heard a lot of complaints about The Canyons, how many lifts needed to ride places, how fragmented the mountain is, but after skiing a powder day last year here and four days this year I'm really liking the mountain. First off there's plenty of blues to keep most of our crew busy, but the advanced terrain is amazing. Every where you go there's interesting glades, drops and with all sorts of exposure you can always find some good snow. Largest in the state means you can always go somewhere to avoid the liftlines and crowded slopes.
My favorite area for the weeks weird and varying temps was Dream Peak on the far left side of the area. No one was there and there are tons of woods where early on some powder could be still be found and nice afternoon exposure later for some great steep tree skiing. Lift up.

The first three days we skied the Canyons, typical spring skiing, freezing in the morning skiing groomers and then waiting for the the steeps to soften up. Sometimes we had to break up the long wait for the sun with some beverages.
Like I said The Canyons offers endless possibilites and walking a little off the 9990 lift opens up new horizons. Hope I can get familiar enough with some of the slack country here to access some of this.
Thursday we headed over to Park City. Personally if I never have to go again I'll be happy but it is a groomed blue paradise and with weather temps colder and overcast skies in the afternoon it wasn't a bad choice. Found some north facing glades off of Pioneer holding some decent snow and was sorely tempted to take the hike up Jupiter Peak, but didn't want to do it alone.

We had planned to hit Snowbasin on Friday but with high winds and possible white out conditions we opted to stay at the Canyons and then make our last day at Snowbasin. We were worried that a Saturday, combined with Spring Carnival that the crowds would be unmanageable. Longest wait on a lift was 5 minutes. Just love this area.

Headed over to Strawberry Peak first thing and didn't disappoint. Our only new snow of the week about 3 inches covering very chattery hardpack. This is a shot looking off the backside. How tempting, but I'm sure there's a good reason we didn't see one track.

In the afternoon the sun had softened things enough to head up to Allens Peak. A zen moment before heading up.

Hmmm, may want to do a timeshare spacebank search for The Canyons some time. Definitely easy to get spoiled getting lodging that way. Thanks for the TR. 
2023-24: Wolf Creek in Dec, Massanutten in Jan, Feb; GT, Big Sky; Crested Butte; Alta/Snowbird in April.

Nice TR. Next year there should be a new lift, Iron Mountain, near the Dreamscape/Colony area. From this years trail map, it looks like a lot of that new terrain will be north facing, which is what the Canyons needs. Make sure to check out DV next time you are in town. The slackcountry peak in your photo is locally known as Squaretop.
