The End of an Era...We are Shutting Down the Messageboard

the bible is an antiquated book that belongs with the other fiction books on a bookshelf, and I can guarantee that any one here that says they follow everything in the bible are just lying to themselves and they are just picking and choosing what parts they want to follow.

you are referring to the fourth commandment "Remember the sabbath day by keeping it holy" found in Exodus 20:8. That was the old covenant made between God and his people. You must have forgotten about a man named Jesus who actually established a new covenant with not only the Jews, but gentiles as well. If you look at Luke 13:10-17, you will see that jesus himself labored on the sabbath and set the precedent for others to do the same, other tenants of the new covenant were the eating of formerly unclean animals, circumcision to baptism, the veil in the temple was torn representing the spirit of God becoming accessible to anyone at any time rather than going through a priest.

I'm no one to judge anyone and I am in no way doing that. The only a thing I can do is try to live according to God's word, which i fail at everyday. By saying that a person should be killed, what is being said is that without repentance that person will perish; it is not saying that if you drop an F bomb then you should be beheaded on scene. As far as swearing, the Bible does say we should not use God's name in vain and that it is a sin. Nobody is capable of living a sinless life or following the commandments, which is why Jesus died. Also remember the cultural context in which the bible was written, quite a different time and place than 21st century USA, especially if you are referring to Old Testament times(which you are). Looking at the new Testament, what else is "messed up" about what the Bible says? Returning to ho mosexuality, does there not seem to be something fundamentally wrong with a man sleeping with a man? the fact that 44 out of 50 states in a secular nation outlaws also makes a pretty strong statement
I do not pick and choose between what I want to believe. It comes down to what you believe, and I am expressing my views. Whether or not the USA was founded on Christian principles is another debate.
