What a heck of a day to pick to make the first turns of the season not being able to walk properly today was worth it. Note to self be sure to shave before going next time the ice beard sucked.

Loved the video, I'd love to make some turns with you guys, but I'm not at your level yet. We're still on blues at Beech only and blacks at SS pow.
I have trouble with those chopped up areas, any advice how to take them without getting thrown around?

I would equate it to using your legs like shock absorbers almost like riding a dirt bike. A strong but flexible base that allows you to take the shock while maintaining a stable upper body would be the best way I could describe it to you.

first off, come ride with us anytime!! we love meeting/making turns with everybody on the board.
to answer your question from my personal perspective, i learned to absorb the constant barrage of impacts from chopped up nc groomers by just pushing myself to ride a little faster than whatever was comfortable at the time. when you start to ride faster, you learn very quickly that stiffening up/speed checking when you come upon chop in the snow is a bad decision. instead, your body should begin to understand that you have to dampen the impact of whatever is in your path by absorbing the force of the roller/chop/etc. with your legs. this means exaggerating the act of bending your legs when you see something coming and allowing the board to "float" over the object rather than impact it. just learn to scan the snow 50ft. or more (depending on speed) in front of you so you can prepare yourself for the conditions ahead.
going along with this school of thought, it's better to point your board forward and float over the bad area of snow head on than to attempt making a turn and holding an edge at speed over the area. if you hit a large enough bump your edge will lift off the ground making it difficult to maintain control. if you choose to point your nose directly at the object and loosen your legs for impact (not bracing them!!), nine times out of ten you will float over it. hope this helps. the only way to get better is to push yourself to by riding harder and trying new things...end blog. i could talk about snowboarding all day.

^^ Yeah, that's what I've been told in the past as well. It was actually that SAME spot right after you guys went through the connector at Beech on that blue run that was chopped up and threw me around. We just need more time on the snow though since we're 4 hours away and can't get tons of time on the snow.
We rented a time share for a week in Feb a block from Beech when my noob brother flies up from FL to learn to board. Hopefully we'll get a lot of snow time to progress. We might go next weekend, but I'd almost rather go on a Friday since $30 is better than a $60 ticket on the weekend.
