Today was a very good day. NOAA changed the forecast 3 times and still got it wrong. It snowed 6 inches overnight with a lot of wind and that was on top of the 10-12" that fell yesterday, so we ended with about 17" everywhere with areas filled in. Apparently Alta got considerably more snow than anywhere else, UAC avy report said "Well, this storm certainly favored upper Little Cottonwood Canyon with around 15 inches of 3% density snow for storm totals, and you’ll also find that as you get away from upper Little, the snow amounts drop off drastically" I think PC got 8", and brighton got 9". It snowed until about 8am today and then it went totally bluebird which was good because it got windier during the day and the high temp at 9000' was 1 F. The snow that fell is 4% which allowed for many faceshots. Backside was knee deep and the deepest area of the mountain I skied today. All in all today was probably the second best day of the year. We haven't had deep blower bluebird pow since before I got here on dec 7. Devils castle and ballroom didn't open, so tomorrow there will be a bad news session. Too cold for pics and the skiing was very good so we didn't stop, I might have some for later though.

Wish I could've gotten up with you out there... a friend that has been out there for 13 years had everything but our first half day completely set for us.
We managed to get in a Baldy hike/traverse and we made it out to Tiger Tail. Saturday at Bird the tram was closed due to wind, but it dumped all day. We traversed to Mach Schnell where we found an untouched field with at least a foot. I'm thinking about making my way back out in early April...

you should, it dumps in the spring in UT.
I'm a little backed up with pics that I havent posted, but I'll work on it this afternoon and get some posted for your viewing pleasure.
Friday the resort was thrashed pretty good so I went solo and skinned up flagstaff and traversed the ridge to silver fork. The snow on S facing slopes was pretty heinous with a stout, barely breakable sun crust on everyhting, so I was hoping the N facing terrain in silly fork would be nice. Days and silver forks both have some incredible terrain that I really want to ski. Bother drainages have everything from mellow pow to balls-to-the-wall chutes and cliff bands. The snow was boot top pow that was a hair bit damp from the low clouds moving in ahead of the storm, but the turning was fantastic and I did 2 laps. The ski down to the snowpine on the S facing slopes was horrible though.
The last days have been really nice. Saturday was stormy with the snow being a little dense and graupely, and there was a lot of rime coating everything. It was easy to find untracked snow and the areas that were untracked were creamy and super shredable. Supreme and eagles nest had the best skiing of the day. Last run down the nest was untouched windload that skied very well. The pow would hang in the air after each turn. no pics from saturday as expectations of the day were pretty low (70+ mph wind the night before with heavy riming and lots of graupel) before I headed out., so I left the camera.
It snowed about 8" Sat night, that on top of the denser snow from the day before. Nest and wildcat didn't ski nearly as well as I thought because all the snow got blown to the backside and keyhole. I took some Aussies staying at the lodge up to the keyhole first thing in the morning for the best run I've had in a while. We didn't cross tracks until the traverse above the groomer at the bird. Keyhole was 12" of fluff on the denser snow, and faceshots were had. The Aussies were yelling and laughing the whole way down, I love taking guests to the goods when they wouldn't have otherwise found it on their own. We've had a number of Australians at the lodge this year and they have all been great people. They are super friendly and fun to hang out with, and if they fly halfway around the world to ski I'm going to do my best to make sure they get it, and they got it. At the the bottom of the keyhole they were all covered in snow wearing huge $hit eating grins and laughing uncontrollably. Then we went to the backside where it was more boot top fluff. The sun had warmed the snow up barely enough where it was getting just heavy enough to feel bottomless, so basically it didn't suck.
Today I skied for a few hours--nothing to write home about. It did more riming last night and the snow was dense kinda like saturday.

And now for photo evidence from silver fork
Days Fork from the flagstaff vicinity. Soo much awesome N and NE facing terrain. The face is loaded with stuff to jump off, anything from 5' to 40'.
I skinned across the ridge to the high point on the right which is where I skied from
It was tough to pass up this area of untracked open trees, but it's definite avy terrain and I was solo so I kept it mellow.
pretty self explanatory
Yet another tempting chute I really want to ski. Good thing EastCoaster is coming out soon...
Only the essentials on a day like Friday: a hamme, a harder hamme, helmet, and pow skis. Check out the aspens further down in Silver fork, they are definitely in the crosshairs for a tour
The terrain I skied into silver. I went pretty far into the drainage for lots of good pow turns
There was surprisingly little wind on Friday making the skin out very enjoyable and serene. The woods were dead silent
A chute I saw on the skin out. Maybe after a few more bigger hucks and and increased confidence I'll hit it. Its steep at the top with a mandator 20-30' exit air.
Thats all from silver

funny you mention that....
on a side note... its NUKING, just started. I can't see the transfer tow from the deck; that means its dumping.
