The End of an Era...We are Shutting Down the Messageboard

The messageboard is now in read-only mode and no new posts or topics can be created. We will leave the messageboard up for historical purposes, but you will not be able to make new posts or comment on existing ones.

We have started a Discord server and hope that you all will join us on there. Technology has changed over the years and maintaining the messageboard has become somewhat of a pain in the butt and Discord offers many features for users, the main one being a very polished mobile app.

We really hope you all will join us on Discord and think you will like the platform. Use the invite link below to join.

Today I toured with two of my friends from work and one of their friends. Two were on splitboards and one was on snowshoes carrying a snowboard. The guy on snowshoes was the fastest. We went up to cardiff and traversed the backside and stayed on the ridge towards superior. We dropped in lookers left of the Hellgate cliffs before Little superior.

From the back of Cardiff

Down canyon

cardiac ridge

Superior still a long way up

The face we skied, from the top

Our tracks from the upper part

Two friends from the snowpine

Tracks from the last pitch of our run

our whole run, from just below little superior (high point on the ridge to the right) to the road.

We skied SE facing because one in our group had to be back before 2, so we did not have time to ski N facing into bcc. The snow where we skied was very wet and it would not have been very good to ski it any later because of wet slide danger. We did release a few wet sluffs from turning on the lower steep section of the line, everything was manageable and nothing unexpected happened. Everything North facing had powdery snow.

btw, everyone in our group was fully equipped and knowledgeable with using backcountry avy gear. We all had beacons, probes, and shovels and practiced safe travel techniques, ie we went one at a time, only stopped at safe zones, we stayed out of terrain traps as best we could.

oh yea, its snowing again....

That one might be a little while longer, at least not until I get AT boots. Touring in my lange alpine boots, dukes, and 186 BG's is god awful; especially on the steep wasatch skinners with lots of switchbacks. I'm really wanting dynafits to be honest. The BC here is so big and theres so much awesome terrain I want to ski, but my touring setup is prohibitive of getting out further. Theres other lines I want more than the needle. I'll ski superior before the needle I think.
