The End of an Era...We are Shutting Down the Messageboard

if it were cold enough here, wed be getting some killer snow. its raining pertty hard. just in time for my new skis to show up!!

well I pretty much stopped updating this thread because EC's photos are way more bomber than mine, and because I've been skiing a lot without the camera and updates are worthless without pics.
I'm not sure what the storm total is, but the last four days have been EPIC. Before the storm commenced Kate and I skied God's Lawnmower off Kessler peak. It was a pretty big skin we gained about 3000 vert and it was a super warm greenhouse day. At the Trailhead it was 50 when we started. A couple hours later we were at the top. The top was all wet debris which was soft and actually really fun to ski, but the bottom and the trees we skied were untracked boot deep slop mank glue glop that really wasn't fun at all. It felt like skiing down with skins on, even on reverse camber fatties I felt like I was going to go over the handle bars the whole time. The snow was so wet we triggered a lot of wet sluff and a few small manageable wet slides. The best part of the descent was kicking off roller balls that quickly grew to the size of tractor trailer tires and watching them take out small trees and explode on branches. All in all it was a fun day. no pics because I left the cmera

I think the storm started on Wednesday with some serious graupel and thunder and then switched over to snow pretty quickly. Thursday was deep with about 15" and it has snowed at least 10" each day since then so the pow is stacking up. Kate, Mike, and Ben went up Argenta for what they said is the deepest snow of the year, I'll try to get some of the pics from Ben to post. Today we skied all day including a keyhole photo lap so more pics should come from that as well. Everything was pretty deep and low density

Storm total as of 4:30 today is 43 inches on the Alta site, just about a foot each 24 hour period since it started. That's a few inches more than the last big storm that finished 3/9. The two storms EC enjoyed 3/19-3/22 and 3/24-3/28 are listed as 30 and 19 inches, with no warm day in between.

yea it nuked while EC was here he got like 5 feet of snow. Yesterday we did some get some great pics in the keyhole deepness I'll get them from Ben for your viewing pleasure. Last night we were discussing dawn patrol for this morning since Ben has a job now and it nuked for the last four days and then went bluebird last night at sunset. The wasatch front from midvale was pretty spectacular. Everything was caked with snow, the sky was crystal clear with few low clouds in the mountains, and the alpenglow was in full bloom causing the mtns to show shades of pink, orange, red, and purple. The west side of the valley was pretty amazing too with the sun on the horizon over the oquirrhs.
This morning we all got up around 5:30 and were out the door at 6. We headed up little and stashed a car at snowbird and shuttled up to the Alta Lodge and started skinning up towards Cardiff Pass (poleline). There were a number of other people out and about which was not surprising given the cold bluebird morning after 40" of snow. We kept a quick pace and made it to cardiff where we saw the sunrise and then headed toward little superior. We made it there pretty quickly because the skinning was easy and our group was lead by Ben who keeps a quick pace. The snow was still not sun affected at Little so we started booting up to Big Superior which might have taken another 25 minutes, in total we went from the parking lot to the summit of superior in 2 hours which is a pretty quick pace.. I shouldered my skis kind of against others advice because my pack can't strap the BG's very well. The boot ended up being pretty enjoyable really it was nice to get the skis off my feet and shouldering wasn't a problem at all despite some pretty knife edge and exposed points on the ridge. They did get my heart rate up a bit but thats all. Standing atop superior the morning after a big dump is pretty awesome. It really feels like the top of the world. The only thing that looks to be a little higher than superior is Monte Cristo, which is ok because MC is insane and deserving of respect. We loitered on the summit for a few minutes because it was too nice to dive in right away. There was no wind whatsoever (very surprising), the views were great, it was sunny and temps were in the low 20's. Then we skied 3500 vert of incredible powder. The face was pretty tracked up by the time we got up there, but there were still plenty of untouched turns to be had. The snow was barely starting to get wet as we made our descent but was still pow. The middle section was the best imo because it was endless deep pow turns that had everyone yelling and laughing. Superior is the granddaddy of classic LCC descents and it might be the most photographed mtn in the wasatch, and its something I've wanted to do all winter. It was an incredible morning and not one I'll soon forget. Its too hard to quantify if today was my best descent of the season because there have been so many sick days, but today just might have been my best ski of the year. pics to come later

2. Not really, just reminiscing on 10 days where the priorities were 1. ski 2. eat 3. hot tub 4. coffee 5. sleep and jealous of a great descent with a fantastic bunch of people.
3. Clearly this is a lie, because there is no way in hell that Walker got out of bed at 5:30 and was out the door by 6. I demand immediate proof via epic imagery.
