Ran into skiing_rules at the top of Collins this morning. The latest storm left 13 inches of slightly denser and usual powder. More importantly, it stayed pretty cold today. Not too many powder hounds waiting for the lift to open at 9:15, but still plenty to track out what was open.
Powder in the morning on Collins side. This is Saddle, a blue run. I got some powder skis for the day. Had a good time on Extrovert on the Sugarloaf side in the afternoon. Too bad Supreme closed last Sunday.
Oh yeah . . . I extended the trip for a couple days since Marz Jr. has spring break this week. Southwest makes that decision a lot easier.

Not that much more snow... a lot of places around here are around 500" this year (albeit not normal for most resorts).
There aren't many people that can tell the difference between 500" and 600".

Not that it matters but LCC is gonna be pushing 700" by the end of next week...

We are thinking Lake Tahoe...
which resorts are ski only?
Alta and Deer Valley are skiers only... the best is going to be subjective. Obviously neither of these is the best to me because I'm a snowboarder, but I did ride over into Alta after a Baldy hike and traverse... yeah, I ride the line...

Alta, Deer valley, and MRG are the only mtns left for skiing only. CO does have good skiing, especially this year. CO also dodged the rain and rain crust that caused problems in UT for a long time. But, I'll take lcc any day. we had a bunch of people from CO stay at the snowpine this year... there's a reason

Pic update from the last few weeks. I think they're all p&s so...
This was from probably 6 weeks ago. Just another Alta "18"'
This was from around the same time. James atop some mini golf type lines behind poleline pass. S facing sucked skinning up and going down. We ended up skiing down refrozen wet slide debris in no visibility going back to Alta. It might have been the worst run this year. Like skiing over bowling balls with random icebergs mixed in. This N aspect skied pretty awesome though.
This was around St. paddy's day while caderader was at the gmd. Super warm greenhouse day I was just hoping to find something kinda fun and get some exercise. I went up pink pine from white pine. I was solo which is nice since at the snowpine theres no way to escape guests or M.
up there
I like this. an attempt at photography.
the branch was in the way
I started down there...somewhere
some steep yet perfectly spaced and sheltered trees. for another day though. Next year I'll take skiatlanta up there for his baptism of powder
yep
The skiing was fun in the steeps at the top, but down lower the snow was deep mank that was pretty terrible. And I missed the skinner back to the parking lot so I had to schwack and then skin another 30 mins to get back. Always better than the alternative movie at the lodge.

Last week when Baldy was open.
The groomers were pretty nice
N facing down canyon and pipeline look perfect. Photo from the top of baldy
Superior always has a strong presence
glad to be out of the haze
Next pics are from two days ago. It was raining the night before into the morning but then switched to wet snow. The snow was soft and damp about 15" down from there not being any refreezes for a couple days. I skinned up to Emma rdige directly across from the Albion base lodge. Going was pretty slow, I had to break trail the whole way through the mank. A few areas broke and slid a couple feet beneath my downhill ski which was indicative of wet slide danger. Eventually one broke that made me decide not to go further up the last pitch to the top (maybe 200' vert below the ridge). I skied the safest line down which offered peace of mind and great turns. The snow was wet but had about 6" of new on top of about 10" of soft unfrozen snow. Turns were slow motion but creamy deep and much better than I was expecting. On my way down I skied above the top of a steeper rollover and cut around it quickly knowing the slide danger was a little sketchy. I stopped at the bottom in a safe spot and looked back up to see a wet slide coming down that triggered on the rollover and entrained more snow. It was by far the most snow I've ever gotten to move or seen move that wasn't explosively triggered. It was incredible watching a big wave of snow flow like a landslide and take out part of a tree. The whole thing ended up running about 600' down the hill, maybe 250' vert. It was about 80' wide and left debris up to 5' deep.
The slide started up there above the trees
and ran into this tree where the debris stacked up
it kept going
The toe of the slide and the path. The fracture point was up the hill further
