Watching them flailing on slopes I'd dream of is annoying -- but then if I was with them they would leave me a half mile behind in 20 minutes on the uphill

Snowshoes are so goofy looking. I was packing up at Canaan last week just as this guy showed up to go snowshoeing. FYI: If you are going to snowshoe, use poles. If you don't, you will look REALLY goofy, rather than mostly goofy.
