So what did ski patrol say to carvebeast after that flip?

first and foremost, amazing day meeting, chatting, and riding with some old and new skinc friends in all time beech conditions. kenny, another great video man. jam, thanks for the wine, it tastes great.

now on to the "what did the ski patroller say" question:

something along the lines of "if i ever see you do any inversions again you will get your pass pulled", but it started with the dude flagging me down screaming "NO INVERSIONSSSSS"

this pissed me off, so i retorted. i asked him if spinning or any other tricks were worthy of getting your lifty/pass pulled, and of course the answer was no. i then asked if i was in one of their competitions would i be allowed to do any inverts and the answer was again "no, spin to win" really, a one liner? unbelievable. i told him that worked out just fine with me b/c i had been wanting to learn rodeos/corks and this gave me extra incentive since technically they were a spinning maneuver and rode away :)

the more i got to thinking about it today at work, the more this whole encounter bothered me. don't think for a second this is gonna stop me from doing all manner of inverts all over the mountain, but now i have to do them watching my back for ski patrol to chastise me like I'm their twelve year old kid. of all the things they could regulate on the mountain, they spend their time attempting to rope off as much powder as possible and punishing those working hard to take their riding to the next level in the park. what is the point of the whole "by purchasing this lift ticket/pass, you agree to take responsibility for injuries, death, etc." if not for things like this? i was properly using the terrain in my own way and not putting anyone else in harm's way with my riding; patrollers (and i don't mean this as a generalization, i know there are many great ski patrollers on all the local mountains and i have personally met quite a few) need to realize that not everyone wants to pizza/french fry their butt down the groomers and call it a day. i, for one, want to push myself to be the best rider i can be and that means riding new terrain and attempting new maneuvers in a controlled manner.

Alpine board and bindings.... you ride a much more forward stance compared to a freestyle setup... I ride 70/65

succinctly put carvebeast --you had spotters, endangered no one, and if they didn't already know that you know what your doing, then the landing might have been a clue

Silly priorities on beech patrols part on this one

Hell, I would think they would recognize the value of people who can do that trick cleanly and choose to ride at Beech

Wow! i knew it was pretty forward, but i didnt realize it was that extreme! to give some perspective to everyone, i ride fairly average freestyle angles at 12/-9:eek:

Maybe talk to Beech management and find out what their official policy is on certain tricks in the park/elsewhere on the mountain. Maybe the patroller was jealous of your flip and had to flex his patroller muscles.

Holy crap that's a crazy angle! Just today I was fiddling with the board and settled on 15/-15. The -15 is due to my rear foot being crooked to the right, so anything less and it starts to hurt quickly and just feels plain weird. I tried 12 on the front foot and it just felt weird with -15 on the rear foot. I was 2-3 months premature along with my twin brother (who of course didn't have any crooked limbs). Go figure.
