Policy at Cat is "No Inverts", anywhere. There is a sign in the park. It's because we can't let the ones who can do it and not let everybody else try; and we don't want to haul a bunch of broken necks off the mountain. Nothing against anybody, just a safety issue.
If I were the patroller, I'd have given you props on the trick and then explained to you why I have to ask you not to do it again.

I understand your point and know patrollers don't dictate 'policy"
but broken necks will not be scattered about with gapers suddenly attempting flips -- I don't think flips are contagious; they are too damn difficult
if an epidemic breaks out i'd love to see that video as well

That is a really sweet video and it looks cool skiing those ungroomed runs but I kinda don't get it. Isn't it better to ski groomed runs with maybe a thin layer of powder where you can go faster and all. I tried sking a lift line t sugar last season where the snow was waist deep and I couldn't even move in it let alone ski! I don't know, maybe I'm just jealous cause you guys do make it look so effortless. Just seeing all those exposed rocks and stuff makes me think it's probally best I stick to the groomed runs to avoid killing myself but hats off to you guys that can ride that deep stuff:>)

im gonna have to agree with davidski 100% here. kids arent just gonna start throwing inverts just b/c they are all of a sudden allowed. heck, i didn't know there were any rules about them at beech (no signs, no warnings, etc.) until i got called out and i have NEVER seen anyone do any in many years of riding there. it is a self governing maneuver due to the fact that 99% of riders/skiiers will not attempt one until they are ready/skilled enough to do so. That very small percentage of riders choosing to do them are such a tiny niche in the grand scheme of southern skiing that it really is not worth the effort to enforce some sort of restriction policy against them (mainly b/c they know what they are doing and understand the risk involved!)

yes, at first it sucks and seems like a whole lot of work for not much reward riding off trail in the deep stuff. do yourself a favor and keep trying. when that light switch flips on and you link your first two or three turns that truly feel bottomless and youve got snow in your nostrils and lungs and you cant stop smiling/yelling you'll understand. after my first powder day in utah i legitimately considered dropping out of school, leaving my girlfriend of the time, my family, packing up, and going out there with just the money in my pocket and no plan just to do it every day all winter. i came close to pulling the trigger, but in hindsight am glad i didnt. i can think of very few things in life more addicting.
oh yea, i guess get fatter skis as well:D

A couple of years ago, when they still had Ladies day on Thursdays, I saw a skier (with a spotter below) doing inverted helicoptors off that same spot for an hour. It was a pretty low traffic day, maybe that makes a difference.

It looks alot of fun so I guess it's awhole new learning thing. I imagine outwest they probally offer lessons in powder skiing so maybe that might be what I need to do but it diffetly does seem like something I will put on my bucket list. Actuallly, just getting to ski outwest period is on my bucket list.
