First, it will always be Wolf Laurel to me (been skiing there since I was a kid).
It was stellar.
Work was called off. Ski mate with an Audi S4 e-mailed and said "lets tag it" He didn't have to ask twice.
Fantastic conditions. Light crowd. Lots of powder.
Bottom line, if you can sneak away and ski anywhere in NC, do it the next day or two. It is worth it.
The End of an Era...We are Shutting Down the Messageboard

Was thinking of leaving Wednesday to ski Thursday but I could move it up a day. Do you think there is going to be much of a difference?

Somebody mentioned 20 trails, and now Wolf claims 23 trails. How the 1 slope on the Breakaway side is 5 trails, I'll never know. Marketing that we clearly don't understand I suppose.
After 12 more inches predicted through Thursday, that place will be hard to beat no matter how many they claim.

I can attest to this post. I ski patrolled there for 1 winter in college. Before the change in ownership and new patrol building, (it was halfway constructed). I remember one day, yes, one day when I was supposed to go to class but it snowed 14" over night. It sucked getting up there but there were about 20 paying humans in attendance, absolutely no grooming to speak of, the closest day I've ever had to a western pow day in the east and it was ridiculousness!

Great story! You've got to take advantage of those opportunities when you can in NC. Sometimes we go years and don't see those conditions. Fortunately been spoiled the past 2 seasons.

In addition to the point above about Wolf Ridge, "trails" #13 and #16 are not trails. There is no longer a magic carpet or tow rope for those "trails." I just took a group with a lot of beginners last Sat and the learning area is where trail #16 is on the map, but learners have to hike back up a few feet to do their lesson. Very lame compared to Cat's excellent learning space.
Trail #13 was not in use at all and since it is a steep hill, you need a lift or something to use the trail. Too bad since it looks like a reall learning area.
The lift wasn't running to the top either which stunk. The reason was wind, but didn't seem that bad and they opened it up at night when it seemed like there was more wind. There were other things that were annoying and I won't take a group back to WR anytime soon. It is too bad because they do have some fun runs.
