The End of an Era...We are Shutting Down the Messageboard

The messageboard is now in read-only mode and no new posts or topics can be created. We will leave the messageboard up for historical purposes, but you will not be able to make new posts or comment on existing ones.

We have started a Discord server and hope that you all will join us on there. Technology has changed over the years and maintaining the messageboard has become somewhat of a pain in the butt and Discord offers many features for users, the main one being a very polished mobile app.

Decided that a day trip was necessary on Sunday. Marz Jr. only willing to go along to Massanutten. Since we have season passes, off we went. It's a 4 hour drive from my house so we rolled into the parking lot at 9:15. No snow on the roads to even think about in Virginia.



It was cold and windy with air temps in the low 20's, but sunny. Diamond Jim was closed for a race in the morning, as it usually is on the first Jan weekend after New Year's. Per usual, not a lift line all day. Unless you count waiting for two chairs to fill when the race group broke up after the awards ceremony at the Mid-Mountain Grill. The Grill is outdoors only. It's run by the parents of Mnut team members on busy weekends at lunch time.



Mnut installed a second conveyor loader for the beginner lift that goes up Southern Comfort. So now that lift stops less often . . . when a novice falls at the top trying to get off. ;-)



Great conditions. Been so cold that there was no ice anywhere. Windblown in spots but not crusty at all. Packed powder, well groomed, no bumps. They got all trails open before Christmas so that provides two ways to get to Lift 6.

Looks good! I like the second convey they added. Makes it a lot easier to keep the gate area level & really easy for loading.

Thanks for the heads up! We'll be there again for MLK weekend. But with warm weather expected, I don't think the conditions will be quite as sweet.

If it's anything like last year, the green runs and the bunny hill will be slammed, but the blue/black runs will be close to empty.

On holiday weekends, we ski first thing in the morning then head to the condo for a long lunch. Back after 3:30 and ski into the lights. Marz Jr. started skiing at the top a few years ago, so that makes a big difference. When you get a multiday lift ticket, nights are included on all the days. Of course, now that we have season passes, that's not an issue any way.



Saw on FB that Mnut is going to replace the one remaining double-chair with a triple for next season.

I know you asked this in my WTG TR, but since it applies to Mnut . . . moved over here.



The new conveyor loading is on the long beginner run, Southern Comfort. It's the run at the end of the ramp that leads to the ski lodge. I never remember the number of that lift. You can't see it in the bottom pic that looks up the mountain. The lift was already a quad, so no change to that at all.



Also, there is now a bench after you get off the Southern Comfort lift, tucked up next the the lift hut.
