WOW! Just WOW! I'm not sure if it was the fresh 1.5" of snow, the lack of wind, the bluebird day or just the incredible terrain, but today was one of the best days we've had in a long time! Started off the morning with breakfast at the Tline lodge, it was good & reasonably priced. Didn't feel like taking the extra time to run to Davis, especially with partially scraped roads from the overnight goodness that fell. Still didn't get 1st chair but with a light midweek crowd it didn't really matter, there was plenty to go around. Ran Salamander with the wife & enjoyed the 2 mile cruise through the woods. Salamander has a few flat spots, but that's pretty much expected with a green. Still good fun & a good place to work on switch. Made my way around the hill & turned the wife onto Twister. One of the newer blue runs. Partially groomed with some sweet untouched butter on the sides & through the trees. The advanced terrain got tracked out pretty good by noon, but still plenty of stashes to be found. It looked like they had groomed some of the advanced terrain before the snow fell & they left it untouched :>) Onto the pics:

The End of an Era...We are Shutting Down the Messageboard

It really is a great place --
Now you have to make it out there after/during a sustained storm
Snowshoe is always going to get the southern traffic -- but if the canaan valley was the closer stop? ...would you ever drive another 1.5 to 2hrs to SS?
Incidentally -- do deer just follow you around? It's like an entourage.

I did like them both but couldn't really take the full advantage of Canaan's terrain due to the weather & conditions. Timberline has longer runs & is probably my new favorite SE resort!

Timberline & Snowshoe are both roughly 6hrs for me. & 33 from Harrisonburg isn't much worse than 219, so it's a tough decision but Timberline is probably the choice, especially for midweek... I'm not sure how much weekend traffic they get...
Those deer were hanging out looking for handouts... I think there were folks a few doors down giving them treats... not worth the $300 fine!

Did you meet Doc at breakfast? He is the owner. Never eaten breakfast there when he wasn't either serving or eating.

He was probably the one that said hey to us. We didn't really get to chat as he was helping the blind ski group get setup. Those guys have guts! It's hard enough for me to ski & not run into things being able to see the terrain.
