I had grand plans to fill this TR with tons of pictures/video, but left the camera and Flip on the kitchen table, where I had laid them out so I wouldn't forget them. Major fail on my part.
Regardless, we decided to take in a night session with my 9 yr-old stepdaughter at Sugar last night. Left Concord at 3 PM and got into the parking lot about 5:45 PM. By the time we got on the slopes the sun was almost completely set. Plenty of moonlight though. Temps in the mid 50's most of the time we were there were great! Slopes were groomed before the night session but I didn't get to take advantage of that since we were mostly on the green runs to start. After doing the mandatory 3-4 runs on the magic carpet run (she is a good skier but always wants to start on the magic carpet when she goes somewhere new), we tackled the green runs on the right side of the mountain. Conditions were good to start, but were icy by the time we hit the blues. No issues with crowds/lines, but there were more people there than I expected, mostly boarders. Only one "jeans skier" so it was a good crowd. We had a blast getting a few hours in and know I realize my daughter has gotten bit by he "ski bug" like I have had.
A few random thoughts:
- First time I've had my lift tickets scanned in the east. I can't
imagine how much that slows down the lifts during busy days.
- After recent events, I rented helmets for me and my daugther
Sugar has brand new helmets that were great. Only downside
was having to fill out another rental card and putting a CC on
file- a bit of hassle when trying to be safe.
- My daughter is getting pretty good at skiing. She skis in control
and responsibly, but still likes to tuck and go. I'm trying to teach
her how to carve her turns, but she doesn't want to learn. Any
advice?
- Parking lot smelled like a Grateful Dead concert (if you catch my
drift). I am naive about this or is this normal?

The ticket scanners were put in place to go along with the lifts at Sugar. They want to make sure nothing moves at a fast pace there. Fast is just not in their vocabulary.

I assume you went on 2-17 and not 2-7? A TR 11 days later wouldn't make much sense.

it actually only slows you down when its not crowded. when there is a line, its easy to scan tickets faster than the line moves.
and yes the parking lot was normal. welcome to the mtns

I see your point about the scanning of tickets. I guess it's still the slow as a snail lifts at Sugar that slows the lines down. I still think it is a pain.
And no need to welcome me to the mountains, I was born and raised in 'em, but in WV skiing the mountains did include all the "extra curricular activities", well except for the occasional flasks of shine.
