Diamox (acetazolomide). Available by prescription. But in essence, you take it a day or two before you get to altitude and continue on it while at altitude. It helps you breathe easier. It's only needed if you continually have problems on ski trips (for this forum) at higher altitudes.
I have never taken it. But headaches are common on your first day as is nausea(never had nausea, but had a nasty headache for a day back in July)--but most symptoms pass in 24 hours. The key to this is to drink ----lots of water.
When you headed out Dreamin? I'll be in Breck in a couple of weeks.

Peak 9 from downtown Breck
Actually Peak 8 and Imperial Bowl and Horseshoe Bowl is at the center of the pic. You can see some runs coming off the shoulder of Peak 9 on the left side of the pic. You can also see the Whale's Tail between Peaks 7 & 8 and Peak 6 on the right side of the pic.

amazing TR. I'm headed to Breck next week and I'll come back with my first, maybe second TR.
By the way, I was wondering if my Breck pass counts for night skiing at Keystone? I've been there before but never ventured to any of the other mountains during my stay.

I heard that it does. We didn't test it b/c we wanted to night ski Keystone the first night, so I didn't want to waste a full day pass on just night skiing. We got $35 liftys off of www.liftopia.com for Keystone--the normal night skiing rate is $55 or so.

so is night skiing its own session at keystone? or would basically count as a day on my pass if I went? ... I have a Peaks Pass for 3 days at breck but it'd be cool to go to keystone one night, while still skiing all 3 days at breck.

Altitude affects everyone different. I had a few issues with it one time, and then I read some articles about it. One thing you have to remember when you are traveling from the east coast to stay in Breck or Keystone...you need to be hydrated properly to give your self a chance. Make sure you drink plenty of water. Alcohol when packing, Coffee for the ride to the airport, and flying in a plane all zap the water out of you. So, ask that Southwest stewardess to get you some water next time she walks by. Then when you land in Denver, stop and get some Gatorade and some more Hammees.
