Is there such a thing as reverse altitude sickness -- cause I'm sick as hell; probably I should just go back.
Great trip met a lot of new people and skied whole days with fellow skiNC's. Wednesday to Wed with laps on both day of arrival and departure. I got the most I could out of it.
Day 1
My brothers standby passes got me a seat and I arrived at car rental noon; had a cheap-*** compact but upgraded to a Pathfinder, $550 for the week money well spent in the end. Aside from the road conditions that came up, I ended up spending 5 nights in the Chalet/Hostel in Frasor, it was good to have a big box on wheels to keep my stuff straight in when you are sharing a room with 6 strangers.
I got to the Loveland Parking lot late afternoon after stocking up on supplies, too late for even a half day ticket so I got my gear ready there and headed up Hwy 6 to make late afternoon laps off the pass
Great luck with rides and I got in several laps
Day Two
I spent the night in Goergetown and Thursday morning headed back to set-up in Frasor for skiing Winterpark/MaryJane with my $20/day 5 day pass. Stopped for laps on the way as I crossed over Berthoud pass. Made three runs -- the trees above hoop creek and telegragh actually had crust issues so I moved to skinning up the middle of east side and dropping skiers right to the switch back there. The trees were virtually untracked and felt deep and fresh despite being days past a storm.
As I was starting to skin up the second time someone yelled at me from the parking lot so I waited and he bootpacked up to me; he'd found an iPhone in the parking lot since it wasn't mine I suggested that he leave it in the shelter but he said he gets a signal at treeline on Mines and would call contacts. He went on and I fell behind
About halfway I noticed two guys coming up the skin track behind me (yeah I get passed by everyone) then they start hooting and the boarder up ahead starts hooting -- he'd called the first contact which was one of the buddies skinning up. The reunion of a man and his phone, always a touching occasion.
Got to Lodging and an afternoon starting groomers on WP
High lonesome trees maybe the best place to get hooked, they are a perfect starting ground for advancing to steeper tree skiing
And the MJ side always real.
MJ Banked slalom, the tracks were established but at least still soft
and cool discoveries

Day 3
It was snowing as I set out in the morning
This was just a great day and I went further into deeper trees on Jane side then I've gone before, this gate is almost never open
More dicoveries, the basement bar at MJ, Pepperonis, is a favorite of mine mostly workers and regulars, I said I'd found the three story their surprise was gratifying; some had never seen it but I honestly couldn't say where it was exactly.
Snow got heavier and at around four Berthoud pass closed with a slide that covered the doors on a couple of cars. My drive back was interesting
Day 4
It was sunny right away -- the snow actually got heavy fast in the sun, trees were good but it was crowded and they tracked fast
MJ steep bumps left me feeling like a basketball player trapped in the corner under a press -- how did I get here?
found thick sheltered trees, and I think now what must have been a mine shaft -- way too deep to work up and look, it's in the trees under the green traverse Gunbarrel. They are on the WP side which all the MJ skiers disdain but they were are steep and tricky with some of the freshest snow even as the temps kept climbing

I finally found the Cirque open, and snagged a ride (who got on seemed random, I just stuck out my thumb)

Great TR's from CO ! I thoroughly enjoyed both parts .I still need to go there.
just getting around to reading this. My work computer can't see your pictures, so I can't read them during my normal hours of computer time...

I found those trees under gunbarrell as well, but never stayed over there because I didn't particularly like that pioneer lift or the runs under olympia.

The gate into stagecoach trees is behind that overpriced chili lunch place at the top of Pioneer lift; they drop down to the Eaglewind Lift base -- in fact if you don't keep pushing left as you drop you end up beneath the lift bottom. They're exposure means they can get crust and in fact despite the soft top layer in those pictures I was having issues with that; still amazing though, Patrol usually saves it for themselves
