At an hour when most sane people are asleep, GaSkier and I made are way up to Cat. Fueled by a gas station hotdog and a desire to ski, we lapped the mountain unceasingly; averaging 6 laps an hour during our illustrious time at the Cat. Conditions were phenomenal given what they'd been through this season. Everything was open and you could even go through the trees if you so desired.
The snow making is impressive, loads of man made powder. Light and fluffy it looks more like smoke than snow or fog and created some great rooster tails heading down. A couple of icy spots early on (Upper Snowbird and Lower OMG both had a couple of sizable spots) but Cat still far exceeded my expectations and really it was one of the best days I've ever had there.
Pics or it didn't happen
Second chair, sun rising through the trees
Looking down from the top at an untouched Upper OMG. The people in the chair in front of us were boarders so they were still strapping in.
Rock Island, the sun doing it's best not to be ignored
Looking up @ Upper Snowbird
Looking down at Alley Cat
I just like this shot. something about it reminds me of that final scene in How The Grinch Stole Christmas....
Kicking it old school....check out those skis and bindings. Kudos for frugality.
The little girl had on a fluffy helmet which made her look like one of the penguin kids from Surf's Up
No shirt, no helmet, no problem. All one needs to snowboard are spandex shorts and what I imagine equates to half a bottle of tequila. He was actually snowboarding like that.
A camera phone pic of GaSkier tearing it up
Here's some video of the days adventures. The tune is Over Island by Casino vs. Japan
highlights
2:36, I turn around, knock a guy over using only my mind, and then continue down the mountain.
4:15 a fat shadow throwing rooster tails

Nice trip report. Enjoyed the video. You were really ripping down upper Omigosh !! :>)
My son and I were at Cat the day before and I was amazed at the quality of snow and amount of coverage after just a few days of cold temps. Cat has really stepped it up in the past few years.
We shared one of our rides on the quad with Waynesville local who had a season pass. He told us about a project his company did for Cat a few years where they pulled out the old water lines and upgraded to much larger pipes. What a difference...
