The End of an Era...We are Shutting Down the Messageboard

The messageboard is now in read-only mode and no new posts or topics can be created. We will leave the messageboard up for historical purposes, but you will not be able to make new posts or comment on existing ones.

We have started a Discord server and hope that you all will join us on there. Technology has changed over the years and maintaining the messageboard has become somewhat of a pain in the butt and Discord offers many features for users, the main one being a very polished mobile app.

We really hope you all will join us on Discord and think you will like the platform. Use the invite link below to join.

I already posted a report about the time I was at whitegrass, and that weaves back and forth

BUT, I left greater Saxapahaw, NC Sat morning and passed Senaca Rocks about 2:00, I've still only driven by them

I got my room at the Purple Fiddle and got a night ticket at Canaan

It was seriously, bitterly cold, w/ 40 mph winds. By 7:30 when I quit there was Nobody out, including lifties (pagamony can attest to this phenomenon at CV)...............sorry in advance about the hand held videos

[VIMEO]36947326[/VIMEO]

Got back to the Purple fiddle and watched the band, The Hot Seats, spectacular fiddle player

Sunday morning I went to Canaan again. Right away in the liftline I happened to meet Abe, who is a rare poster on the board and an excellent tele skier who showed me some great tree runs last year

With his brother we made some good turns on perhaps technically closed runs

Later I skinned out of CV and ran into Abe again with his brother and wife out on the pipeline small world

EAST COASTER-- if you are reading this, I went to the top of Wiess Knob and tentatively started down, for a picture, it was so beautiful, wind loaded and deep that I really came close to winging it down to laneville, frankly I still wish I had

Monday Morning was bright and beautiful, $15 lift tickets at Canaan with two canned goods

Great, great conditions and even though I had finnagled most of the runs before it was fun to be at the rope drops

Now this is something -- Abe, notice that our tracks were the only ones there, and when I came down again on Monday Patrol really was waiting for me but they were very, very cool . The key question is -- Ok, so how was it?

Snowshoe' on Tues., hmmn,

the stuff under the lifts was pretty good

and a nightime experiment:

I think it is going to be a good March

Excellent! You timed it perfectly for that storm. Hate that our trip was ending before the goods arrived.

I've never actually skied it all the way down into Laneville- it ends on private property (though I've heard that the owner is pretty cool/used to people skinning from the bottom). Usually you hit diminishing returns with snow depth at a bench about 3/4 of the way down.
