Disclaimer: P&S cameras and washing machines do not get along well so all photos had to be taken on my phone. :(

As opening day drew nearer, the decision to go skiing looked like it woild not happen for me but at the last minuteon Friday morning, I called BFeller who was only 30 minutes away from passing through Winston Salem. I begged him to stop and pick me up so we set out for a really fun day.

Arrived around midmorning, and set out to the top of Upper Shawneehaw. The snow was actually very good and the grooming was good too. Of course we did not get there for first chair like some other SkiSE peeps. The snow remained good throughout the day and held up much better than I anticipated given the temps in the 50s. The coverage was great and the few bare spots came from being ridden over and will easily be groomed out. It never got very soft and as the shadows came out around 3, it really started firming back up.

On the way home, we were surpised to see a familiar red truck parked outside AppNet so we stopped in and had a nice little visit. Thanks Mike!

Onto the pictures.

Ran into a couple of SkiSE folks who were already having a good time.

White Lightning looks the same as last year, let's hope that changes.

Robbins has a lot of big whales all the way down one side.

BFeller surveying Shawneehaw. If you look really hard, you can see a couple of rails set up at the merge of Upper and Lower Shawneehaw.

There was a little corduroy left for the Captain.

My first Beech day of the season! I had a blast!

Sux the temp gonna be warm over the weekend, on top of me being sick ATM. If it weren't both of these factors combined, I would be planning a day trip.

Nice report and pics. I was there as well, no need to make another thread. I got about 3rd chair this morning. It was really firm starting out, but it softened up nicely around 10am. Crowds were light and I never waited for a chair. I left around 11:45. I forgot my jacket, but temps were warm, so it didn't matter. I think Beech has enough snow to move around to survive the warm up. I wish more could have been opened, but it was a nice opening day.

Nicely done Pinkie. I will try to make it up some other time, as I still owe you a beer and some lunch. Would've been there but I've got a Benefit ride (Holiday Ride in the Hampton) tomorrow, and with driving to go to Can-U-Ski, it was just too much driving to handle. Glad to see you guys get some.

It was a fine opening day. The slopes that they opened were in fine shape. There were no lift lines and the 35 bucks for lift ticket was perfect. SkiPink did not have to beg to me to pick her up. I was exceptionally happy to have someone along for the drive. I guess that was Griz with Mellow.

Tmiller - was that you with the GoPro on a stick?
