Made the 10 hour drive from Alabama to Davis, Wv last Thursday. Arrived to cold dry weather and LOTS of snow on the ground. Skied Canaan and Timberline last Friday and Saturday. Pretty good conditions but still waiting on some terrain to be open. After lapping the same few runs for a while Friday got bored. Headed off of timber run up to Bald Knob (~30 min hike).Saw no one on the way and took a little longer due to low visibility and my lack of knowledge of the area. I just kept heading for the ridge down the gas pipeline cut and working toward the knob and eventually got there. Made a beautiful run down from Bald Knob through a small chute at the top and down through untracked trees. Eventually opened to a meadow and made some fun meadow hopping turns. Found a few small natural terrain features in powdery creeks and eventually got back to Canaan. Headed over to Timberline for last half of day and had similar conditions there. The next day was basically a exact repeat except with bluebird conditions and lots of xc skiers from whitegrass on the pipeline cut. Overall it was a lot of fun I'll definitely be back soon. Sorry my buddy had borrowed my gopro so no vidjas.

Nice work. If I make it to Davis this year I may have to coax someone with a 12 pack to show me the way to this area. If we get more snow that is.

It's not hard to find or get too. If you look from the lift it's the obvious summit to viewers left (skiers right). Just go to the elbow turn on timber run and head out through the woods. After about 50 yds. you'll reach a utility cut for a gas pipeline. Head left down the cut skating and boot packing until you reach the obvious high point. From there you can see Canaan to your left. Just head down and left into the drainage and you'll find yourself back at Canaan.

Great TR Caderader, so glad that you made it and took advantage of our beautiful piece of WV slackcountry. I'm confused about your route down from Bald -- did you end up up back at Canaan or at the lot across the road from their lower lot? One picture looks like the meadows on the edge of the Whitegrass runs. Anyway it looks great.

And to then have some runs w/ your Dad, bloody priceless. Where did you stay?

----oh yeah, did you find some of the tree stashes within Cannan?

So basically I followed something similar to the red line. Down the bluff on bald that faces CV and then down through the meadows back into the hardwoods and into the ski area just above the higher lift.

SOrry it's hard to see...
