My wife and I went up to Snow Trails on Sunday for a few hours. While the place is not gnar with only a 300 ft vertical, it sure is nice having a place just an hour from home where I can get some turns in. Conditions were pretty fantastic. After over two weeks of below freezing temps and around ten inches of natural snow with regular snowmaking made for super soft packed powder with everything open including trees from snowmaking blowover.

I participated in my first skier cross race and got 6/6 in both times I went down. The first heat was for lane placement in the final and then the final. I'm not going to share the video. I'm pretty competitive and actually thought I would be a contender after doing a number of practice runs down the course. I should have waxed my skis lol. I decided not to share the videos because they are not great and I don't end up being the champ. Plus I don't have my wife's phone handy. The pics are not fantastic, but what can I say.....skiing is FUN!

This was fun. All trees were in play.

Not the best picture of them, but the glades here are pretty fun when they are in play. They can run about 250 of the 300 vertical feet in areas.

After Sunday it has really warmed up here and I'm curious how well things will hold up.

^^^Its not uphill, you can get going pretty good, but nothing is gnar. Still way fun to get out for a few hours.

There are many places with less vert than app in the Midwest. I look at the fact Snow Trails has twice the vert and way more terrain that is closer than Cloudmont when I lived in Birmingham.
