Here are few pics from today on the river. Lot of skiing TR's so I figured a river TR was in order to keep it fresh.
This warm weather of late with rain mixed in has been great for paddling. Today got up to 70 degrees with partly cloudy skies- really Couldn't ask for a better day to be on the water in January! Level was 1.9 which makes for a really good run.
Mike in Jawbone at hydro rock. The big boulder to the right has a bad sieve in it.
Me coming over right crack at crack in the rock rapid
Top of Corkscrew. there's more to it than the pic suggests I swear!

what is gnarscapone?
All of 5 falls in section 4 is pretty sieved/undercut. There have been a lot of fatalities in that section. It's weird standing on a rock scouting a rapid that multiple people have died under. Crack in tge rock has 3 lines and they all have places to get trapped.

Section 4 is one of my paddling favorites, however I've always carried Crack In the Rock. That rapid looks ugly in the summer with low water, but not that difficult. The reward compared to the risk for Crack doesn't work out for me. I can vouch for the difficulty of Corkscrew.
I paddled the Nolichucky River on Saturday with isn't like Section 4 but still fun.
